Publisher's summary

A worldwide sensation with more than 12 million copies in print, Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series has produced #1 best-selling novels and earned a fiercely devoted fan base. Another spellbinding entry in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the saga of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century, time-traveling wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the privilege, although some might call it a burden, of knowing that war cannot be avoided. Claire has told him that the colonies will unite and rebel, and the result will be independence, with all British loyalists either dead or exiled. And there is an additional problem. Claire has discovered a newspaper clipping from 1776 that tells of Jamie’s death. With its epic scope, historical details, and sweeping romance, A Breath of Snow and Ashes is everything Gabaldon’s fans love and more.

Captivating as always

The saga continues and I was in love with it all, so many twists and turns. The attention to detail is amazing! My only ‘complaint’ is how this book was divided into sections for download, was very annoying to remember what one I was on and to have to ‘start’ a new one. I like seeing how much I’ve listened to and how much is left. There should be an option to do one or the other. I truly hope no others are like this.

Excellent performance, outstanding writing, engrossing story!

Excellent performance, outstanding writing, engrossing story. I would definitely recommend!! It’s book 6 of the big 8, but would be okay by itself too. Superior writing and clearly audible voice acting is unsurpassed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fabulous

The Saga continues more adventures. A history lesson like no other. Yes I have clarified the history. I have learned so much. The adventures, love, romance, sex and war. Can’t wait to read the next book this one ended with a bang.

Fabulous Performance

The story is a roller-coaster. Partly exciting and partly depressing, but wholly addictive. Davina is WONDERFUL though, I can't wait to listen to her in the next installment.

These books are something to read and re read!

These stories have been with me for 25 years and I can't wait for Diana's new book that continues this ageless love story. You will never get this story out of your heart and mind. The best ever!

...my 3rd listening....

To combat Droughtlander, this is my 3rd appreciation of this series and again fall to understand why it isn't listed with the best series of all time.

lt engages me to consider:
historical information
relationship of husband and wife, man and woman
political conflict
combating plague and ignorance
humanity/inhumanity, ethics/morality
and so much more

This series should be required reading, multiple times, for everyone.

7-30-2020.. ...and to salve my Droughtlander, I listen again. This series - with The Greats - must be on humanity's literary Bucket List.

Mixed emotions

It is with mixed emotions that I come to the end of another book in this series. My respect for this author is diminishing, as is my motivation to progress to the next book. It is painfully obvious that this book is full of "fillers" (short stories not tied to the plot) in order to meet a length or chapter quota. The misadventures are becoming more unbelievable and yet, many other events are frustratingly underdeveloped. It is as if the author is forcing the story to develop and progress, which is not an issue I identified in the earlier books.
I'm looking forward to the series ending soon and I'm hoping for better quality going forward.

Fire in the Carolinas!

This installment of Claire and Jamie's saga was amazing! I think it's my favorite so far. It is full of action, romance, and dedication. The story of Brianna and Roger is also woven in beautifully by Diana Gabaldon. She is definitely my favorite writer. Dan Brown has been dethroned. Hail to queen Diana!

Love this story

What did you love best about A Breath of Snow and Ashes?

I was intimidated by the length of these books when I started the series. Now there aren't enough pages! The characters are wonderfully complex and the story makes you want to know...what's next!

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

Wonderful performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book is too long to listen to in one sitting. But I have been known to take extra time commuting to listen for just a little longer
