Publisher's summary

A 39-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder, Edward Stanton lives alone on a rigid schedule in the Montana town where he grew up. His carefully constructed routine includes tracking his most common waking time (7:38 a.m.), refusing to start his therapy sessions even a minute before the appointed hour (10:00 a.m.), and watching one episode of the 1960s cop show Dragnet each night (10:00 p.m.).

But when a single mother and her nine-year-old son move in across the street, Edward’s timetable comes undone. Over the course of a momentous 600 hours, he opens up to his new neighbors and confronts old grievances with his estranged parents. Exposed to both the joys and heartaches of friendship, Edward must ultimately decide whether to embrace the world outside his door or retreat to his solitary ways.

Heartfelt and hilarious, this moving novel will appeal to fans of Daniel Keyes’ classic Flowers for Algernon and to any reader who loves an underdog.

Well narrated creative story

As someone who helped care for a nephew with Aspergers, there are many truths to this story. I enjoyed how the author worked through Edward’s thought process. It’s not surprising that at the age of 39, he’s just reaching adulthood in more ways than a few. It’s a lovely read!

600 Hours of Edward

A sweet story of personal strength and growth of a man who was born with the odds stacked against him. The main character reminded me of another favorite, Odd Thomas. The narration was excellent with each character having a distinctive voice that was believable-almost like listening to a radio drama with different actors speaking the parts. A joy to listen to.

well done<br />

it took a bit to get into the story but I am so glad I was driving and let it play. really drew me in with how well it refected how a person with Asperger's would think, speak, and deal with life. The narrator, Luke Daniel, made the listening experience go from good to really great. highly recommend. And I seldom say that. I would buy more books by this author, Craig Lancaster, and more books read by Mr. Daniels.

slow burn well worth persistence

This book provides remarkable insight into the perspective of an adult man with developmental difficulties, OCD, autism. It is compelling and grows on you despite the inherent repetition. Great narration

Go Edward

Loved this book. I found myself cheering Edward on and then hitting a low when things didn't work out. Edward's goodness and innocent, but honest, outlook on life was a joy to read. Luke Daniels was perfect for Edward.

Surprisingly Great Read

Where does 600 Hours of Edward rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Probably in the top 50. I've listened to a lot of audiobooks.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Edward, who suffers from aspergers and OCD. It is fascinating and touching to see into how he sees the world and how he tries to make sense of it.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He embodies many of the characters very well. Specifically, his voice when he is portraying Edward is montone, clipped, and factual. It reflects Edward's world view perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not at first. Because this was listed as one of the Daily Deals and had good reviews I decided to try it. It isn't a standard choice. However, it wound up being a great experience and I recommend anyone, no matter what genre you prefer, give it a try.

Repetition was never so entertaining.

Edward is endearing, irritating, vulnerable and brilliant.
Initially I didn't think I could listen to his litany of daily routines, but found they were a clever literary tool, that varied in pacing and tone.

Wow....I didn't think....

Already being a big fan of Luke Daniels it was inevitable that I would listen to this book. Although a bit repetitive I instantly fell into the groove of things. Don't we all feel like Edward sometimes? Try it for yourself. I'd guess. Or maybe it's a fact that you'd enjoy it.
