Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Eric Flint’s 1632 presented listeners with a fascinating alternate history of the Thirty Years’ War, through the eyes of a West Virginia community tossed back in time to 17th-century Germany. Here, Flint teams up with acclaimed science fiction author David Weber to continue his epic tale. In 1633, the West Virginians attempt to use their modern-day knowledge to build a resistance against the forces of France, Spain, and England.

Great series

Combo of real history and science fiction is a winner. Characters are consistent and believable although the authors' political bias is ---obvious--- to put it mildly. Getting /Spinoza in there was very clever. Looking forward to rest of the series.

Time travel is the premise, history is the reason.

Who remembers the Thirty Years War? A war from 1618 to 1648! I know that my understanding of it is restricted to a single lecture in high school. I wonder if many Europeans even remember it. This series breathes life into the period in a novel way.

Time travel is simply a convenient vehicle but history, economics, sociology, technology, psychology and many other human and natural studies are the real reasons for these stories.

The Thirty Years War can be boiled down to mice fighting each other and this series inserts a mighty mouse into the mix but a mouse none-the-less, and only with skillful management will this 'exceptional' rodent succeed.

This book drills down into the politics and intelligence of the various historical figures. The great wrinkle is how Constitutional freedom is used against the transplanted West Virginians. Is it too flip to say that Cardinal Richelieu is a pip?

Lastly, George Guidall is a worldwide treasure.

Nevermind all the detractors!

This is an essential prelude to what follows. It is quite dense for those who have limited attention spans but, I for one, appreciate all the political and to social details. contained within the development of the characters and the stories that follow this one. The action is quite noble and shows the strength of the characters. Hans Richter is a pivotal character and should be recognized as a lasting hero! Never disparage the discussions that are significant to this volume and point ton what is to commence!

The characters!

Great storey and character development.

My only real negative is thatthe voices done by the reader kinda sounded the same, and like an old man.

For future books, maybe at least have a woman to do the female characters. The females sounded like men, too.

Disappointing follow up.

Where does 1633 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Middle of the road, which is disappointing when compared to the first book of the series.

If you’ve listened to books by Eric Flint and David Weber before, how does this one compare?

A very poor follow up to 1632, which to me was one of the best audiobooks I've listened to.
