Publisher's summary

When an ancient fissure is jolted in the hills above Los Angeles, a band of long extinct predators, perfectly preserved in suspended animation, awaken. And then the deaths begin, attributed at first to the modern hazards of a rich and teeming metropolis so close to the natural mountain habitat of cougars and wolves. But the ravenous killers are descending from on the mountains, stalking at night, moving from prehistoric relic into a modern nightmare of carnage.

Hannah Hughes, local newspaperwoman, and Jim Grand, a melancholy anthropologist who's happier studying cave paintings than other people, know the threat is real and more dangerous than anyone realizes. Their self-imposed mission is to find the cats and confront living specimens before Sheriff Gearhart destroys what may be the last link to our ancestors' time. But the cats' preternatural sense of smell is guiding them closer and closer. And the cats are on a mission, too....

Good story with strange clicking

This is another great creature feature novel in audible’s collection. The story was compelling and easy to follow with good and proper explanation when needed. A strange issue occurs here and there in the recording the narrator clicks his tongue before speaking, don’t think that was meant to be picked up in the recording but it wasn’t an issue and was frankly adorable. Other than that it was a good book and a great listen, Recomended to anyone wanting a solid creature novel.

Interesting Premise Unrealistic Delivery

Nice try with a far fetched story line, but it doesn't hold together. Additionally the characters don't act consistently with their portrayal, and many interactions between characters are unrealistic.
It could have been so much better.
The narration while decent, is riddled with unedited mistakes.
