Fate and second chances...

Laura Kensington knows it's now or never. If she doesn't leave her abusive husband, not only is her life in danger but the life of her unborn child is, as well. But even after the monster she married dies suddenly, Laura realizes she can never escape his family, the ruthless and dangerous Kensington clan, who consider the baby she's carrying to be their own. Desperate and determined, she flees to Evers, Texas, with a new identity, taking refuge on the ranch of Cade Bishop, a man who firmly believes in second chances.

Drawn to the handsome, strong, but gentle man who has dedicated his life to the rescue of neglected animals, Laura finds comfort in his passion and his love, yet she fears he sees her as merely another needy case. But she will need more from Cade than his tender touch and understanding heart when her past resurfaces, bringing grave peril into her world once more. For relentless enemies, both anticipated and unexpected, are drawing closer by the day, ensnaring her in a deadly web of deception, betrayal, and murder. And her only hope of breaking free lies in Cade's powerful, loving heart.

Hope!!

This is the first story by this writer I had the privilege to read. I have since read it more than four times. This is the first time I have listen to the audio and I was not disappointed. The narrator can make or break a story. I think Amy Rubinate did a good job on this one with the exception of the fake Southern/Texas accent. I love this story as well as the characters. It definitely a story of "Hope", finding new beginnings and love. Great story!

Ever Hopeful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's a love story, a story of hope, of second chances. It also has a couple of "sexy cowboys".

What did you like best about this story?

It is a story of second chances and hope. After being in such a horrible situation for three years Laura found herself surrounded by people who she could come to love and count on. I loved how Cade knew exactly how to get Laura to trust him. He way he didn't push but tried to show her in so many ways that he was there for her. I thought it was great how the town's people in Evers were so open and friendly to Laura and very protective of her just because the Bishops accepted her just as she was.

Which character – as performed by Amy Rubinate – was your favorite?

Laura.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was and I tried but had to do it in two!

Any additional comments?

All of Lori's books are great reads. They aren't just "two people meet and fall in love". There are deeper issues that happen before they get to their happy ever after. Also, usually there are some pretty bad guys in her books too!
