Publisher's summary

In the traditional folktale of Sleeping Beauty, the spell cast upon the lovely young princess and everyone in her castle can only be broken by the kiss of a Prince. It is an ancient story, one that originally emerged from and still deeply disturbs the mind's unconscious. Now Anne Rice's retelling of the Beauty story probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire.

Here the Prince reawakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual initiation. His reward for ending the hundred years of enchantment is Beauty's complete and total enslavement to him...as Anne Rice explores the world of erotic yearning and fantasy in a classic that becomes, with her skillful pen, a compelling experience.

Don't miss any of the books in Anne Rice's Classic Erotic Trilogy of Sleeping Beauty.

Meh

What disappointed you about The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty?

It never fully captured me.

What was most disappointing about Anne Rice’s story?

Too many "moans from closed lips."

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator's voice was annoying.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty?

The very last scene on the cart. Sex on a packed tight cart full of other slaves? Really?

Worst Ann Rice Book - Missing a Story Line

What did you like best about The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty? What did you like least?

The story started off strong and felt like there was going to be some big reveal.

What could Anne Rice have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It seemed like Ann Rice just stopped the story mid stream there wasn't an ending at all. I could see if you were left with a clif hanger but it seems more like she wrote the whole story and just randomly broke the chapters away. This story left many more questions then there should of been. Nothing was explained and everything was left hanging, there was nothing to explain any of the motivation or reasoning behind this book. It seems like there should be a second book to explain but even if there was I wouldn't download it I am so upset of about this story.

Have you listened to any of Genvieve Bevier and Winthrop Eliot ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never heard another performance to compare this one too, but I did enjoy her voice. Her voice is the main reason that I played this book till the end.

Was The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty worth the listening time?

Not at tall. Maybe with a different ending or more details on the motivation and story line this book may have been worth reading. The premise for the book seems to be a decent one.

Very disturbing

What disappointed you about The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty?

Nothing I expected. It felt dirty and wrong!

What was most disappointing about Anne Rice’s story?

First of all, it was very unrealistic. Secondly, I loved 50 shades and Sylvia Day's novels, and I love a good naughty porn story; however, this was not. I kept hoping she would find a way out of the extremely horrifying event that was her life. Disappointed and disturbed by the whole thing. I couldn't even listen to it that intently. Instead of feeling sensual, it just felt so wrong. And there was no break from it. It was constant abuse. Terrible, terrible, just terrible. I felt awful for the main character. I would not recommend this book.

I can't wait to get home and read any of her books

If you could sum up The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty in three words, what would they be?

exciting, emotional,classy

What did you like best about this story?

Beauty came to understand and accept herself for who she really was.

Which scene was your favorite?

The taking of sleeping beauty..To me it is a metaphor to life,,We go to sleep with no promise of waking ,yet we do wake and no matter what stands before us we except it,understand it, and grow from it.Only to look forward to the next day with both anticipation and fear.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes and no..Yes because, I wanted to see what happens with beauty, BUT no because I didn't want the story to end.

Any additional comments?

I don’t get a chance to read as much as I would like, however, I will say that this book gave me a reason to get home after a long day of work, hurry with dinner and getting my son ready for bed, just so I could lay some place quiet and comfortable, so I could disappear into the world of sleeping beauty..This book is so well written yet very easy for the readers to follows without needing to look up every other word in the dictionary. Not that I’m ignorant but let’s face it some of the authors use 100 dollar words which leaves the reader feeling uneducated or needing to look the word up just so the sentence will make sense. She also writes so erotically, just flirting with that line of tackiness, yet still able to hold the reader’s attention just waiting for the next line. I love to end my evenings with one of her books, what a beautiful and erotic way to escape my reality for just a little while, and my husband doesn’t mind it either, Trust me after reading her erotica even he gets a payoff..LOL..Enjoy her books, we do.(wink wink) :)

Not for me

This book is harsh, violent and all about humiliating, dark sexual behavior. I do not begrudge this sort of story to anyone who enjoys that sort of thing, but it was not for me. I only made it through the first 15 minutes or so... So either enjoy it, or be warned.

Not A Family-Safe Book, But Not Porn Either!

Would you listen to The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty again? Why?

Yes...mostly because I refuse to disown Anne Rice the way most Christians think I should. This is definitely erotic fantasy, but I don't think of it as pornography, because she goes to great lengths not to actively degrade anyone. No glorification of anything illegal happens in this book for example. It is not about drugs or prostitution or human trafficking. it is about eroticism WITH CONSENT, and it is strictly fantasy!

What did you like best about this story?

That is the kind of confidential detailing that I choose to discuss only with close friends at the Black Tower. There are names I could mention but I won't.

Which character – as performed by Genvieve Bevier and Winthrop Eliot – was your favorite?

CLASSIFIED.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. It did make me cry.

Any additional comments?
