Publisher's summary

Known for making up his own rules of right and wrong, Texas Ranger Sam "Wildcard" MacGregor takes what he wants when he wants it, especially when it comes to women. But seduction is the last thing on his mind the moment he stumbles across an Hispanic beauty crouching in fear beside a burned-out wagon. And it doesn't take long before he realizes the woman the townsfolk call "cursed" is hiding secrets too dangerous to face alone.

Isabella may look feminine and unassuming, but she's hell in a bodice with gunslinging skills to match any man's. But though she knows not to give Sam her heart as readily as she offers him her lush body, Isabella is certain she sees in Sam what he can barely glimpse in himself - a virtuous man dropped deep into a hard country bent on breaking him. A man who, under it all, craves a passionate woman willing to risk everything.

Not my favorite

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love the series so I was committed to reading it but this one was my least favorite. The voice of the narrator was instantly off-putting, almost nasal. It was very difficult to decifer which character was speaking, save the annoying voice given to Maddie. I like the storyline but it was difficult to listen to.

Sam & Bella

Okay, I like this book better then the last book. I was sceptical about a male narrator, but he did very well.

Now that is how a narrator should sound

Where does Sam's Creed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I don't know about anyone else, but I just can't get into a woman doing a man's voice in a romance novel...especially if it is a scottish highlander or tough cowboy...come on now! This narrator was awesome!!! His voice made this book totally believable for me! Loved it. Unless it is a romance book told from a woman's view....you need a man to make it right!!

Which character – as performed by Jason Adams – was your favorite?

definately Sam!!

Good book, but bad audio!

The book would have been better if they would have used the same narrator from Caine's Reckoning. Books narrated by men are not good at doing female voices, but most female narrators are good at the male voices. That's why I gave this audiobook 2 stars, because of narrator you really couldn't feel the story.

Worst Narrator Ever!

The book itself is good, but had to read the actual book to know that. Tried listening to this narrator, not only does he have no motion when he reads. His voice barely changes on the different characters, can't tell whose who when the characters change. I wasted my money on this audio, couldn't even get to half of chapter one it was so bad. I will never buy another audio with this narrator. I find the best narrators are normally women, since they can change their voices a lot better, but I have read other male narrators, that were okay.

Corny

Anyone who enjoys reading about raw sex absent a good story line will love this book. Raunchy, high-school-girlish, Harlequin-romance-novel-like writing. I never did complete the listen. It just got boring and predictible.

Was it the novel or the reader that was off?

I have to admit I hated the reading of this book at first. I couldn't decide if it was a poorly written novel or that I despised the way Bella's voice was done.
About halfway through, I began to ignore the way Bella spoke and let the sound of Jason Adams voice sounded wash over me. Yes, his very deep voice told the story well and made me feel like I was listening to cowboy spin a tale. However, he needs to not do female voices. The voice made Bella's character seem flat and one-dimensional, which she isn't and I had to work too hard to get that.
I worked to get past my original hate and came to enjoy the reading.
For the story itself, I found the deeper character development from Caine's Reckoning to be lacking. We knew far more about Caine, Desi, and even Sam from the first book than this one. I also think that Sarah McCarty might need a better editor -- there were some pretty huge disconnects in some of the steamy scenes -- one where she was undressed literally TWICE and another where in one moment a guy was exposed and then not. Those shifts were jarring and ought to be caught by better editing.
(And Yes, I do believe that steamy novels ought to have great plots and good writing.)

Save your money!!!

This has to be the worst narrator on the planet. I nearly lost my mind trying to listen to him drone on. While the story might have been really hot, he absolutely killed it. I couldn't get through it.

Disappointment Sequal

A disappointment sequal to the first book of the Hell's 8. Narrator lacks emotion and connection with the story and it's characters. A rather flat production. The writing is surprisingly unsimilar to that of the first book, lacking in excitement and depth.

Horrible Narrator!! Skip pass this one!

I could barely concentrate on the story. This narrator messed things up for me since I just listened to the first book which was great and the narrator accent was also on point. This Jason narrator guy sounds like a smooth Jazz DJ on one of those stations my mother always listens to... definitely not good.
