A warrior with a scarred heart who doesn't know how to love. And the woman who must teach him how before it's too late....
The son of the evil AllFather, Xairn, is filled with conflicting emotions. On one hand, he has finally gained his freedom and cut the ties that bound him to his race and the sadistic male who is his father. But doing so has unleashed feelings in him Xairn would rather keep buried. Desires that he prayed would never manifest now rage through him and they are centered on one woman alone....
Lauren Jakes is the long lost cousin Liv and Sophie never knew they had. Abducted by the Scourge, she formed a connection with Xairn more meaningful than any other in his life. But though Lauren thinks she knows him, there is more to the huge Scourge warrior than she comprehends. A nightmare childhood and a cruel father have scarred Xairn's heart almost past the point of healing. But that is nothing to the secret inside him - the forbidden desires coded into his very DNA itself, which urge him to commit unspeakable acts in order to sate his newly awakened hunger.
Now a conflict is brewing - both in Xairn's soul, and aboard the Fathership where the twisted AllFather has hatched a new, malicious plot to bring his estranged son home. Can Xairn resist the brutal lust growing within him? Can he fight against his very nature which urges him to dominate and control any female he mates? Can Lauren heal his heart before the AllFather's trap closes on both of them?
And can she teach him how to love before it's too late?

Evangeline Anderson has got an imagination, and it shines through clearly in each Brides of Kindred story. The world building is some of the best I've listened too in Sci-Fi romances, and she did an amazing job creating alien technology, foods, and unique characters, with special abilities and customs from worlds far beyond anything I could ever think up. In addition to the vivid, and descriptive universe, she brings a fresh plot, that's full of suspense, drama, lust, and really hot sex scenes! Each story is truly a journey and an adventure for the characters.
Like the other stories, I did enjoy this one; however, at times the story seemed to drag on a bit and I started to get tired of listening to Xairn and his fears of hurting Lauren. Xairn has saved Lauren from fate worse than death, and vows to return her safely back to earth. However, he's developed deep feelings for Lauren, but even after breaking free from his people and the "AllFather", he's afraid of ever mating with Lauren as he fears he will hurt her due to his dominate instincts and special mating urges. Lauren trusts Xairn and knows he would never hurt her, so she begins breaking down his walls.
I had change in narrator blues….. I really missed Anne Johnstonbrown. Jodie Bentley did an decent job narrating; however, this is a series I think would be awesome for a dual m/f narrator team.
Worth a credit? Yes! These stories are erotic, sexy, vivid and told from multiple POV's.
Books are the doors to other places. READ!!!!
It is one of my favorites.
One was when Xairn found the puppy. the second was when Xairn finally got even with his father for all the horrible things he had done to him. the third was when he was able to talk to his mother for whom he has never gotten to have a relationship with. the last was when he and Lauren were finally able to work out his fear of hurting her.
This book was funny, made me cry, frustrated and angry.
this was a story i had been looking forward to listening too. this is my favorite book so far in this series. this book had me on a emotional roller coaster. I would get so frustrated with Xairn because he was willing to sacrifice his love for Lauren to keep from hurting her. He never had known love of any kind except his pet that he had to let die to keep her from being tortured. I felt his emotion each time he put himself down and called himself a monster. Lauren truly believed in him. This story proved that no matter that no matter how horrible your life may have been in childhood and adulthood that you can over come. :You do not have to be like your parents. I recommend this book and series. This book definitely has some hot set scenes in it. This book is not for you if you can not handle domination by the alpha male in the bedroom.
Hello I am addicted to Audible!!! The addiction is real and I need help...more credits that is.....
I loved this book so much like the others it has a great story line and hot sex. Now I want to know more about Nadia and the detective oh and the mixed kindred that was captured. Yes and ofcourse I want to see them all pregnant with kindred babies. Please hurry with the next book.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. *Not just about erocticisim* although it is very steamy! Very Very steamy between Loren and Xarin. But, the overall story is really good. (spoiler alert) Especially when Xarin is searching desparetly for Lauren amongst all seed clones and a real clone..I cried when he was screaming her name frantically, and then finally finding her 😂 The narrator did an excellent job speaking in all the different male and female voices. How she able to this is extrodinary.
This audiobook ranks among all of the rest of these audiobooks in this series for me. It is one of my top favorite audiobooks to listen to and I have listened to this series more than once.
I enjoyed the whole story but a part that stuck out for me was listening when Xairn and Lauren were together in her room. Xairn was never with a woman and for someone who started out not really knowing what to do he quickly knew exactly what he was doing. There was no doubt, he was so sure of himself.
Jodie Bentley did an amazing job portraying all of the characters in the series. I can honestly say that when it came to Detective Rast voice, I was completely surprised because in my mind his voice was completely different; there wasn't such a strong accent.
Also, when reading the story yourself you don't get to read what song Sylvan sang to Nadiah after her dream. This audiobook sings the song which I found both funny & soothing and I enjoyed it a lot because it is actually the first audiobook I listened to where the narrator actually sang in the story.
I really enjoyed listening to the part when Lauren is held captive by the trader who tricked her into wearing his items. When he came back for Lauren and Xairn refused to let her go but he had to sniffed the out the real Lauren amongst the clones. I love listening to how far he would go to protect her, as far as branding himself for her.
I recommend this series to all paranormal readers who enjoy a good story with strong male characters who are very protective of their female mates, and with female characters that will make you laugh and you'll root for them to fall, and fall hard in love with their mates. I think this series is enjoyed better if you start with the very first book in the series.
Yes! Ms. Bentley did a wonderful job portraying each of the characters-male and female. I often find myself hating EA's heroines. Most of them seem a little too whimpering, whiny or outright weak, and they often place themselves (sometimes eagerly) in these TSTL situations that have me thinking they deserve what ever consequences come down on them. But in the end, their Kindred mates almost always take whatever the punishment is.However, Ms. Bentley's performance lent a maturity to the female characters that didn't come through while reading. I think it made them a bit more likable and less annoying or seemingly simpering than I imagined. I found myself enjoying them (and even some of their female bantering) a bit more than I expected.
When Xairn saved Lauren and told her the story of how he was taught to swim.
Everything! This is the first female reader I've listened to that I TRULY enjoyed. She gave each of the characters their own individual sound so that when I wasn't reading along, I could still easily determine who was speaking. Her voice as the narrator didn't sound like the lead female character's-something that drives me absolutely bananas in so many other stories. She has an awesome voice (and not just her singing voice-which is quite pretty in a very sweet, soothing way).JB also did an outstanding job portraying Xairn. Her depiction of his downbeaten humbleness was perfect.
I wanted to, and I did! This story came along with me during my Saturday afternoon-while I cleaned house, in the car on the way to the store, and in my ears around the grocery store. I kept checking the volume on my phone so no one around me could hear it through my earplugs when she got to the steamy parts. :p
Somehow I bought this audiobook first. When I went back and started at the beginning-Claimed-I was highly disappointed to find the first 3 books were narrated by a different reader. The woman who narrated the first three in the series isn't bad. She's not bad at all, but I wasn't really feeling her for THIS series. Her style reminded me of a 1940/50s actress. She has an old school Hollywood theatric-ness (whatever) about her performance that I don't care for for the Kindred series. If the rest of the series is narrated by Ms. Bentley, I will DEFINITELY buy the audio versions and give the Kindred series a second read/listen through. As I mentioned, I'm not biggest fan of most of the heroines in this series-even though I autobuy them all. Hey, what can I say? They're all so imaginative and entertaining-if formulaic-and the price is right! That said, rereading/listening to the first few books is bringing it all back to me. I'm actually looking forward to hearing some of them narrated (by JB, of course!) while I read them again. Nadiah (who MAY just be my favorite H of the series-need to recap to be sure), Mei-Li, Trin, and Maggie.
Would recommend everyone to read it was a great book and I look forward to more like this one
The story line, the interaction between characters. I could not put it down. She sets you up for the next book. I can't wait.
When is the next book coming?
I'm in love with audible books.
This was a fun book, just like the others before it. The narrator was not so good. The alpha makes had such weak voices as well as the evil Allfather. PLEASE OH PLEASE RETURN TO UR ORIGINAL NARRATOR. or at least someone who can do a better alpha male.
"Villain turns hero"
Xairn, son of the Scourge Allfather and a villain in the first two books, redeemed himself in book 3 by saving the human girl Lauren from the vicious Allfather and absconding with her. This book is their adventure and romance after their escape, and very good it is too. Lauren is a warm and intelligent heroine, albeit naive at the outset; Xairn goes through the greatest evolution, having to overcome and transmute the sadistic and autocratic Scourge tendencies, which he does with Lauren's help and love.It also introduces Rast and Nadia as a couple, and their funny but passionate meeting, thanks to a series of misunderstandings.I like the new narrator - she is less mannered than the previous one, and I prefer her male voices. She does the main characters well, and most of the secondary too (she gave Sophia a silly voice, but then Sophia is a wet, so it didn't bother me).
Xairn. I like villains who redeem themselves. Rast, because he's a twist on the detective stereotype slipped into a sci-fi story. Lauren, because she's so warm and life-loving.
Inflection, some good voices, and the enjoyment of someone read a book I had enjoyed previously on Kindle.
Laugh in places (the misunderstandings around Rast at the wedding).
"Pity about the narrator"
The story was enjoyable enough, but why on earth would you change narrator part-way through a series. The characters just sounded all wrong. Sylvan sounded dreadful, and don't get me started on Sophia and Locke. Not sure I'll continue purchasing books in this series with this narrator. What a shame!
