Publisher's summary

A dark and edgy romance that will appeal to fans of erotic and turbulent relationships....

In the near future, the Krinar rule the Earth. An advanced race from another galaxy, they are still a mystery to us - and we are completely at their mercy.

Shy and innocent, Mia Stalis is a college student in New York City who has led a very normal life. Like most people, she's never had any interactions with the invaders - until one fateful day in the park changes everything. Having caught Korum's eye, she must now contend with a powerful, dangerously seductive Krinar who wants to possess her and will stop at nothing to make her his own.

How far would you go to regain your freedom? How much would you sacrifice to help your people? What choice will you make when you begin to fall for your enemy?

WARNING: This book contains strong sexual content and explicit language and is not suitable for listeners under 18.

Critic reviews

"If you're looking for some sexy summer reads, you'll want to check out the new book series, Krinar Chronicles. Author Anna Zaires brings you a kind of 50 Shades of Grey meets Star Trek tale...." (Marie Claire)

"For diehard fans of the paranormal romance genre, author Anna Zaires's risqué new book could be your next guilty pleasure. Zaires's most recent read, Close Liaisons, combines a love story with science fiction in the tale of Mia, an unassuming college student whose life gets suddenly entangled in a dangerous, otherworldly affair." (Woman's Day)

Brillante!

Where does Close Liaisons rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Could not stop listening to it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Love the interaction between Mia and Korum!. I just loved their chemistry. It reminded me of Christian and Anatesia.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Godwin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time listening to her. I really enjoyed listening to her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I even listening it at work! LOL That is how much I could not stop listening to it. I can't wait for Close Obsession The Krinar Chronicles: Volume 2.

Any additional comments?

I loved it so much that I am recommending it to friends. I wonder how a movie would be like? hmmm

Riviting Story!

This is one of my all time favorite authors! Her stories never disappoint me! The Krinar Chronicles are the most uniquely written storylines I have ever read. The main male character is so arrogant and bold and over the following two books you see him turn almost human. The sensuality of the sex scenes is so intimate.....and incredibly illustrative. You cannot stop with the first book. This makes Shades of Gray boring!

Eh read with a great narrator

So, this is a tough review for me to write. I have gone back and forth many times on the star rating. I did not hate the whole book just one major element, the heroine Mia. She was immature and naive with no real redemption for her actions. She was so easily manipulated by everyone around her that it was difficult top believe she was a Psych major at NYU. I found it very difficult to connect with her and was very annoyed that hers was the only narration. Her character just made me cringe.

On the upside this was very well written with a creative and fully developed world. I loved all the alien technology and the invasion that was not really an invasion. It was a unique take on things and so very intriguing. I am not always a fan of Sci-fi but this book drew me into those elements. I really enjoyed each new piece as it was revealed.

The premise was also really intriguing. I loved all the twists and turns and will admit that the story managed to surprise me, which is very uncommon. Kudos to Ms Zaires for bringing the story to a point I was not anticipating!

The other lead Korum seemed very controlling and not altogether to my liking. By the end I was felling him more but still unhappy with his relationship with Mia. How can a centuries old genius alien be so taken with such a ninny? I just did not get that at all.

The steam was really hot and heavy and varied. I actually could have done with a little less sex and more talking. Sure it was steamy as all get out but I just felt the lack of feeling messed things up in my opinion.

I listened to the audio-book and the narration by Kathleen Godwin is top notch. I loved her voice and characterizations. She really did a wonderful job of keeping me listening when I was not really feeling the story. I will be looking for more of her work, for sure. Honestly, she is one of the factors that kept me listening. She really was enjoyable and made the story move along quickly. I will definitely be looking for more of her readings!! Very happy ears here!

I totally agree with all the Fifty Shades of Aliens comments buy other reviewers. It definitely had that whole feel, perhaps that is one of the other reasons I disliked much of the book. I was not a fan of Shades and try to avoid any of the arrogant millionaire paired with an innocent virgin books. They just don't appeal to my palette.

This book often shows up as a freebie on Amazon, what I suggest is picking it up when it is free and deciding for yourself. You may love it, may have. You may feel the same as I did, then you are out nothing but time. I am now in a precarious spot because I want to know how the whole thing ends even though I had problems with the characters. The book ends in a way that you need to get the next book to get closure. I have high hopes that the next book will bring me to a place where I can like the leads, perhaps Mia will grow up a bit after her experiences in the first book. I can only hope!

Enjoyable but not “Twist me”

Less dark than “Twist Me” and that darkness was actually a bit what I was hoping for.

I can’t quite wrap my head around the attraction between the main characters. Which is also really different from the chemistry in the Twist me books.

Still an enjoyable start of a new series.

Loved the story!

Would you consider the audio edition of Close Liaisons to be better than the print version?

Unfortunately, I would never recommend the audio to this book. The performance was just so bad. She's better off reading a meditation manual than these types of books. All the characters sound the same and was really distracting from the story.

What other book might you compare Close Liaisons to and why?

I haven't read anything like this before. I am willing to read more of this genre. I really enjoyed the story and can't wait to read the other two.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kathleen Godwin’s performances?

Absolutely not.

Any additional comments?

If you can overcome the horrible performance, the story is really worth it. I'm going to skip the other audios and go straight to just reading the rest of the series. I really like this author and look forward to reading and possibly listening to other works, as long as it's not this narrator.

space vampire erotica

The opening of this book was intriguing enough; the earth has been invaded by technologically superior aliens, who did not blow everybody to smithereens, but just occupied the planet and let the party go more or less as it was, changing the bagel fillings and stuff.
The heroine is presented with skill enough to somehow allow a bond with the reader to form.
Then comes the alpha male incredible handsome alien. OK, the stereotype has been used to exhaustion, but I ride along to see what happens next.
The plot reveals the vampire angle. Crap, not another alpha male vampire novel! Said I to myself, and was sorely tempted to drop the effort of listening altogether, but well, since I was already on my commute, I plodded along a bit more.
Some sex scenes appear. I'm always open to good erotica, but here I was surprised to notice that the sex descriptions, albeit being very explicit and carefully done, left me absolutely cold. Maybe a personal fluke, I mean, I like sex as much as the next person, but this one didn't manage to incite in me anything but a bored sigh. Go figure.

Then the rest of the plot somehow comes along, the vampire angle is thankfully not emphasized, and a mildly interesting emotional conflict on human/alien love/hate master/slave perspective begins to unfold.

At this point my attention is already elsewhere. I might finish this book when I have nothing better to hear, while my next credit drops. I made the mistake of buying the second book, after hearing just the initial chapter, and since it was down-marked to a couple of bucks, but I would not have done it if I had waited enough.

On the technical audio side, the reader does a nice job. I liked her voice and she managed to read the sex passages gracefully, not always an easy task.

OMG, the second book is not available yet

Would you listen to Close Liaisons again? Why?

I fully intend to. I also hope the follow-up book comes along SOON. You spend time trying to figure out what is going on, the workings of alien anatomy to human anatomy.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Close Liaisons?

I liked the whole thing, but the fact he is aware she is spying on him, and allows it to play through.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Godwin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Have not listened to others.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Disillusioned the next book wasn't available. Maybe I am missing something, but it isn't always clear it is a sequel.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next book.
