Publisher's summary

The 19th century. The Hell's Eight is the only family he's ever needed, until he meets the only woman he's ever wanted...

Caine Allen is a hardened Texas Ranger, definitely not the marrying kind. But when he rescues a kidnapped woman and returns her to town, the preacher calls in a favor. And Caine's honor won't let him refuse.

From the moment he beds Desi, Caine knows turmoil will follow. Desi might have the face of a temptress, but she also has a will of iron, and while she needs his protection, she's determined that no man will control her again. They establish an uneasy bond, but it isn't enough for Caine. He wants all Desi has to offer. He wants her screams, her moans, her demands...everything. Yet there's still a bounty on Desi's head, and keeping her sexually satisfied is proving easier than keeping her alive.

The narrator ruined it!!

The book itself was really good. But the narration was absolutely HORRIBLE!!! She made most of the male characters sound like dim witted idiots and Cain just sounded plain creepy. My skin actually crawled during the love scenes. I'm sorry I wasted the credit.

Fairly entertaining

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I'm just not into Western set books. I thought I would try it but it was not entertaining to me

Would you ever listen to anything by Sarah McCarty again?

Only if it was not a Western set book

What three words best describe Zoe Winslow’s voice?

Not really sure I can answer this question. Her voice was good for this book but it's not a voice I would enjoy again

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Caine's Reckoning?

Probably none.

Aweful

The best part of the book was begining and end. Everything in the middle was boring. No action, humor. Story sucked.

very sloooowww

I'm very disappointed in Caine's Reckoning. I do really like Caine Allen's character but the narrator puts absolutely NO inflection in his voice nor any of the other men's voices. The plot is very slow in my opinion. I am only a quarter of the way through the 2nd half and I don't know if I can stand to finish it. The main female character has had a hellish year, granted BUT she just doesn't seem to want to tune in to Caine and his gentleness. There seems to be no happiness anywhere which makes it just a little too dark for me. I will finish it but it had better have one heck of a happy ending!

Lacking Spark

I am the first to say, reviews don't always match my taste. A book can get a bad review but I still like it. This book left me .. "eh." It has tons of explicit sex (for me it wasnt romantic type, more graphic sex) and I just couldn't get into the story. It could be as well, I am not too into westerns. It just seemed .. depressing to me through most the book, it about a lot of abuse and getting past it. So I am not deterring from any one reading it, I am sure many will enjoy this book, but it just wasn't my style. I don't review much but this one I would like to warn is of pretty mature nature.

Caines reckoning

This book had a lot of potentail, it started out great and with pizaz. As I got further in the characters lost depth. They were hard to believe. The ending was very abrupt and disipointing, it left me hanging. At the end it left me wishing for what this book could of been.

Wrong Genre?...ya think?

I have read hundreds of audio books of all different genres, this book is pure hard porn NOT Historical Romance. By the time I skipped all the sex scenes there wasn't much of a story left.

Graphic and not in a good way

What would have made Caine's Reckoning better?

The author needed to stop with the endless going on and on about anal sex. Also, I know she was trying to let us know how shellshocked the heroine was by her circumstances, but come on....it was tedious and drawn out. Like Bella's whining in Eclipse, I just wanted Caine to put her out of my misery already.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have been putting it off, but I think I will have to listen to the LAST Sookie. I am not looking forward to saying goodbye to everyone in Bon Temps.

Would you be willing to try another one of Zoe Winslow’s performances?

The narrator was okay... I give her credit for being able to get through all that graphic, explicit language.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed. I used to really like historical romances, but more along the lines of a Johanna Lindsey or a Kathleen Woodiwiss...I didn't care for this at all.

Any additional comments?

I kept checking the author... I don't know many women who talk like that... I'd have sworn the author was a man, especially the fixation on anal sex. Never read a book by a woman where that was featured so prominently...

Ok

This book was just Ok, that's the best I can say about it. It was the first in the series I listened to and I am not in the least bit interested in any of the others in the series.
