Publisher's summary

This “perfect balance of bold honesty and riotous wit” (Shelf Awareness) from the author of Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay explores Stefanie Wilder-Taylor’s journey to breaking up with alcohol for good.

For Stefanie Wilder-Taylor, alcohol was the seasoning that could give almost any activity more flavor—from liquor cabinet concoctions in high school to tequila shots in her early stand-up comedy days to grocery store wine in young motherhood. A drink instantly took the edge off and made even the most difficult adversary (be it a tough crowd in a comedy club or a judgmental PTA mom) not just bearable but fun.

As the years go by, Stefanie wonders if her relationship with alcohol is different from other people’s. Is everyone else struggling this hard to moderate? Is it even legal to watch The Bachelor without a glass of white wine?

Having spent a lifetime grappling with the question of whether or not she is a “real” alcoholic, one evening brings Stefanie close to the edge of losing it all. Miraculously unscathed, she decides that she doesn’t need to dive all the way down to a stereotypical rock bottom before deciding to stop drinking; if sobriety will improve her life, that’s a good enough reason to quit. A tender and funny farewell letter to a beloved but toxic friend, Drunk-ish is “a roller coaster of a book. You will love this candid and funny memoir even if you’re not sober. Trust me” (Jenny Lawson, New York Times bestselling author).

So relatable even though I'm not a Mom

This is in my top 3 of addiction memoirs and Ive read/listened to over 30 in the last 5 years. I've never found it. easy to relate to the authors who are moms, but that wasn't the case with Stephanie Wilder Taylor. I don't really understand why but maybe it's because I felt she didn't make it seem like she was different just because she was a mom. I also related well to this because, like me, she did not have a dramatic really low bottom. one of her biggest struggles was convincing herself. she wasn't blowing her alcohol addiction out of proportion. I did that for 12 years before I finally got sober for good. It's like she was in my mind. This book is great for people who don't want to wait until they're physically addicted, need professional detox, and 30 days or more of inpatient treatment. Like her, I had no serious life-altering problems from alcohol, but I had a million little ones. She's also one of the best narrators. I actually listened to this book twice. it reminded me of some really important things about early on in my sobriety. I'm only 5 and 1/2 years sober. there's so much still to learn and this book is a great way to keep learning.

Love Stefanie’s honesty and humor.

I’ve been listening to Stefanie for years via her podcast For Crying Out Loud. She always makes me laugh and makes the daily grind of motherhood so relatable. I feel like I’ve heard these stories through the years but never as she’s written them here. I laughed, cried and cringed through this book. Thanks Stefanie for being so vulnerable and honest.

Awesome Read

Great Book! Worth the listen! Thought I knew all STW’s stories from listening to FCOL pod since the beginning, but there was a lot of new stories I have never heard. Great read for everyone, but especially if you have a questionable relationship w alcohol. Ten out of ten!

I want to be BFFs with Stefanie

I resonate with Stefanie on numerous levels, having navigated my own journey to sobriety after a prolonged relationship with alcohol as my top priority. I value her candor, wit, and the essence of her message. Similar to Stefanie, I share an aversion to clichéd messages and individuals who repetitively hammer the same point. I applaud her directness. Most off, I’d love to hang out with her. Sad to come to the end of this one.
