Publisher's summary

Every parent wants the best for their child.

That’s why they send them to college! But most parents struggle to pay for school and end up turning to student loans. That’s why the majority of graduates walk away with $35,000 in student loan debt and no clue what that debt will really cost them.

Student loan debt doesn’t open doors for young adults - it closes them. They postpone getting married and starting a family. That debt even takes away their freedom to pursue their dreams. But there is a different way. Going to college without student loans is possible!

In Debt-Free Degree, Anthony ONeal teaches parents how to get their child through school without debt, even if they haven’t saved for it. He also shows parents:

  • How to prepare their child for college
  • Which classes to take in high school
  • How and when to take the ACT and SAT
  • The right way to do college visits
  • How to choose a major

A college education is supposed to prepare a graduate for their future, not rob them of their paycheck and freedom for decades. Debt-Free Degree shows parents how to pay cash for college and set their child up to succeed for life.

Great book for parents, educators and counselors!

I am an Education Counselor. This book was useful and informative to help me counsel sailors and dependents. Great read.

Like and dislike

I would highly recommend this book to any parents and students thinking about embarking the college world... but I would suggest getting the book rather than the audio.
I purchased this audio because I trust the source (Dave Ramsey). I thought the content was excellent and it is truly abundant in knowledge... BUT... the audio is terrible. I have never heard Anthony speak. I have heard that he is a good public speaker so I was very disappointed with how he narrated this book. He just came across as if English is not his first language and as if he just learned to read for the first time. His voice overtone and diction was so forced. Very disappointing.
Anthony please hire someone to read your future books. If Max Lucado can have 2 excellent individuals read his books then you can too.
Other than that, content was excellent and I still plan on buying the hard copy as Christmas presents.

Excellent info

The narration seemed a little odd to me at times, but it doesn't take away from the great information given to help families at any stage prepare their kids for college without depending solely on student loans.

Great book, but buy the paper copy

This book is chock-full of great information for parents and students who want to avoid debt to fund college. It had several creative ideas that we had never heard of that could apply to many/most students. However, listening to the Audible version was painful!! Anthony O’Neal has knowledge to impart, but he sounds like he is reading a book that someone else has written for the first time. His cadence, tone, and unnecessary emphasis on words throughout a sentence was distracting. I love Dave Ramsey and his personalities, but they should have had someone else read this. My advice...get the book, just get the written version.

Awesome

As a 21 year old wanting to go back to school this book has been revolutionary. While it is geared at parents of middle and high school students, the overarching themes have made me completely rethink how and where I should go back to school. I am now excited to plan ahead to go back to school in the next couple years and pay cash!

Packed full of important objectives

This audiobook does not cover everything that is needed to prepare your child for college, and I assume that it was not intended to do so. However it offers a variety of "extremely" important objectives that need to be defined and implemented as early as possible by the parent and student child.

I have two sons. One is a Junior and the other a Sophomore. There are only three months left in my oldest son's Junior school year, and through this book, I have been alerted to the dangers of possibly not having my son prepared for early registration, which happens during January of the student's Senior year.

During this window, you need to have applied for as many scholarships as possible, and possibly have a response back. Needless to say, you need to have all colleges identified, along with their acceptance requirements listed and met. I thought I was on track, but this book has helped me realize that there is a lot more to do, and that although my son has another 15 months before he graduates from High School, we need to move with more urgency, to meet our goal.
