Publisher's summary

In 2013, CNN journalist, Don Lemon, said, "more than 72 percent of children in the African-American community are born out of wedlock. That means more than 72 percent of children in the African-American community are born to absent fathers. And studies show that the lack of a male role model for said children is an express train right to prison, continuing the cycle."

This statement is problematic in many ways, and there's data out now that actually combats this common myth. Dear Black Dads: Wisdom For Your Journey to Fatherhood aims to combat these outdated stereotypes and offer real perspectives from real Black dads who are looking to create new narratives for the Black community through fatherhood. This labor of love is for the Black male who's looking for encouragement and light for one of the biggest roles in their lives.

Excellent Collaboration

This book is an excellent collaborative effort from so many fathers. It was a honor to be included in such a cause.

Loved this book!!

Loved this book! Easy read but full of wisdom. As a black dad of two myself, I found myself taking some notes, reflecting and laughing. I also enjoyed Dr. Myrick’s writing style. It reminds me of Dr. Kendi’s style which includes a nice balance of personal story telling with great content. Very well done and a must read!!

Maybe...

This book does have incredible words of wisdom and passionate advice. Perhaps I was looking for a tailored guide to raising my black baby boy in America. Everyone talks about the experience but I have yet to find how out how or when it is best to communicate that to my son. This book is merely the monotone performance of reading emails about Fatherhood. Yes it is organized by "chapter" but that's it.
Frankly, I am scared. "Be firm, patient, loving, and thoughtful" does not have the prerequisite of being a Black Father. But maybe, this is what Kendi ment...
