Are you my Mummy?

"Dead and in Working Order" by James Livingood, narrated by Ryan Haugen, is a riveting audiobook that kept me hooked from start to finish. This thrilling tale of mystery, family bonds, and the supernatural is a true gem in the world of audiobooks. With a gripping storyline and excellent narration, it's a must-listen for any fan of the genre.

The story revolves around Amon, who is living a quiet life until his sister mysteriously disappears after discovering an ancient grave. Fast forward twenty years, and she suddenly reappears on his doorstep, in a state of sheer terror. This unexpected reunion catapults Amon into a world filled with danger and intrigue, where nothing is as it seems. The premise itself is intriguing, and James Livingood masterfully weaves a complex and immersive narrative that kept me guessing until the very end.

One of the standout elements of this audiobook is Ryan Haugen's narration. Haugen's voice is well-suited to the genre, and he brings the characters to life with his expressive and engaging performance. His ability to capture the emotions, tension, and suspense of the story is nothing short of exceptional. Whether it's Amon's determination, his sister's fear, or the enigmatic figures lurking in the shadows, Haugen's narration adds depth and authenticity to the characters and the overall atmosphere of the audiobook.

Livingood's writing is top-notch, with vivid descriptions that transport the listener to the eerie and mysterious world he has created. The pacing is just right, keeping the tension high and the listener on the edge of their seat throughout the story. The plot twists and turns are well-executed, and I found myself constantly trying to piece together the puzzle, making it an immersive and intellectually engaging experience.

The character development in "Dead and in Working Order" is also commendable. Amon's journey from a quiet, ordinary life to a world of danger and intrigue is captivating to witness. His determination to unravel the mystery of his sister's disappearance and his willingness to confront the supernatural elements of the story make him a relatable and likable protagonist. The supporting characters are equally well-crafted, each with their own unique motivations and secrets that add depth to the narrative.

What truly sets this audiobook apart is its ability to blend multiple genres seamlessly. It's not just a mystery or a supernatural thriller; it's a multifaceted story that explores themes of family, love, and the unknown. The balance between the supernatural elements and the human emotions in the story is handled with finesse, making it a well-rounded and emotionally resonant experience.

In conclusion, "Dead and in Working Order" is a brilliant audiobook that deserves high praise. James Livingood's storytelling is captivating, and Ryan Haugen's narration is a perfect match for the material. The combination of a compelling plot, well-developed characters, and a touch of the supernatural make it a must-listen for anyone who enjoys a thrilling and thought-provoking audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and I highly recommend it to audiobook enthusiasts and fans of mystery and supernatural genres alike.

What a Strange and Unusual Story

This story was interesting but definitely very unusual and I not to sure what to make of it. I feel like there should have been more still to listen to, but it ended.

Dead and in Working Order

I love listening to audiobooks, but sometimes it seems to take forever to finish one! That is one reason I appreciate authors like James Livingood. Mr. Livingood does an excellent job with writing short stories that entertain and tell a great story in a short time. Perfect for those who are looking for great writing and quick satisfaction in their listening.

This story was interesting and evoked visions of Egyptian mummies/zombie slaves. That's all I'm going to say so that the story won't be spoiled for others.

The narrator, Ryan Haugen, does a great job and was perfect for this book. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author and chose to review it.

An entertaining short read.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
I listened to "Dead And In Working Order" in Audible. This was my introduction to Livingood's writing. I look forward to reading more from the author.  I was entertained by this short work.  Livingood does a good job of packing a lot of world building and character development into a small vessel. I reccomend this story in any format.
Let's talk about the narrator. Because, as any NLS Talking Books patron can tell you, the narrator can make, or break an audio book.
Livingood chose well in picking Ryan Haugen.
Haugen brings this tale to life. Making a great story better.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.

Weird Story

First off I want to say that I have read or listened to several of James Livingood's stories and I liked most of them, but this tale I just could not get into it. In fact I did not even finish it. I did receive this audio book for free and this is my voluntary unbiased review. I will add that Ryan Haugen did a good job of narrating this audio book

Another great Livingood tale

Again, I must say I live Livingood’s writing. (Frankenstein IT is the best!) that being said, here we have a tale to fit the the horror and conspiracy theorists dreams. Ever wonder about the leaps and bounds that humans society has taken? Here is a macabre presentation of how and why our society makes these leaps in tech advancements. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher
