Publisher's summary

A vampire never gets old, but neither do his enemies.

When a figure from Ethan's dark past makes a splashy debut in Chicago, Merit and her master don't know whether he's friend or foe. But they'll have to figure it out soon because trouble is brewing in the Windy City.

At an exclusive society soirée attended by the upper echelons of the human and supernatural worlds, Merit and Ethan barely stop the assassination of a guest. When the target turns out to be a shady businessman with a criminal edge, Merit suspects a human vendetta. But the assassins have fangs.

The connections to Chicago's Houses go deeper than Merit knows, and one wrong move could be her last.

Where are the vampires?

I like the story line but it seems that the author needs to study more on vampires. One on one a vampire will win against a human every time and since when does a vampire fear a human You maid the characters too human. And they are not Vamps are powerful beings. Not one that cowers

Completely adored

I love this series. It gets my motor running and has me on edge for the entire book. The narrator's skill with ease of movement between characters was amazing. I can't wait to read the next book.

Chicago Land always a good.

This series characters never get old or redundant. It's not repetitive or annoying. Writer is creative without going too far and each character is enjoyable in their own unique way.

Another mystery solved!

This chapter, of the saga, definitely had some unexpected twists and turns. I’m beginning to feel a little sorry for Ethan and Merit. They never even get a day of reprieve, before the next issue, to deal with, is presented. As with the last 2 or 3 books, in the series, this book ends with a cliffhanger and a hint of what the next conflict will be. I’m certainly glad that I didn’t even start this series until all the books had been released, or I would have gotten pissed about all the cliffhangers. Well, I’m on to the next book, of the series.

Another great addition to the series

Yes this book met my expectations, Merit has been waiting for Sentinel has morphed into a fantastic guard for the house. Ethan does not play when it comes to Merit and the House. I really look forward to the next in the series, Chicago is a tough supernatural city!

'Sentinel, Be Still'.... Yes, Liege, Anytime....

Would you consider the audio edition of Dark Debt to be better than the print version?

I am on the fence about that. This is my first listen to the audio of this series. Emmm, I think I would have preferred a better actor for Ethan. He is so debonair, and sexy. That voice did not do him justice. In any case tht did not take away for my love for this series. I love it. It is chuckful of action.

What other book might you compare Dark Debt to and why?

Maybe Jeannine Frost 'Night Huntress' series. Yeah another Cat and Bones is welcomed.

Have you listened to any of Sophie Eastlake’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is my first listen to the actor.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The sex scenes between Ethan and Merit, and also when they were in an accident.

A- rating overall

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.5
Story: 4.25

One character made this story...Balthazar...wow, talk about a great and really, really creepy bad guy. It made for a great and really suspense-filled read. I was on pins and needles almost all the way through the entire story, not knowing what might happen next.

As always, this is another great installment to the series. I love how the author has threaded all the various story lines through the stories and we're finally getting some closure on some of those...Mallory and Catcher...LOVE them. There were also some really poignant moments between Morgan and Merit. I feel bad for the guy. He's definitely had a raw deal all the way around...even though he can be a jerk at moments.

And then there's Ethan and Merit. I felt like their love was tested more in this book...which again helped in all that suspense. I continue to love them together and am going to be so sad when this whole series ends (did I read right? #13 is the last? *sob*).

This has been a fantastic urban fantasy series. There's enough romance to satisfy this romance genre girl, but the story remains focused on Merit and the strife in her life. I adore this series!!
