Crunchy and not for everyone

Enjoyable for those looking for this specific type of book, certainly not for everyone. A book focused on mechanics, tactics and crunch rather than characterization.

Very bland book, dosen't flow well in audio format

I got through it but I think the author just isn't there yet in their writing. Story is very bland and the the characters dialog is boring. there was very little there to draw me into the world their trying to create. I think their biggest mistake was spending to long on the setup. There is no build up and no climax. it's all very linear. I also didn't like their choice of echo and adding reverb to the gods and system messages.

In short, skip it. At least until there is a book 2 to judge it better.

Not for every one.

The first half of this book is for a very detailed creation of Kyren's new avatar body. The second half starts Kyren new life in Myelad even here the author spends a good deal of time letting Kyren crash and burn for a while before he gets a little more together. This book is for those who like a story where the author to go into unimaginable details on everything, it is almost as if the first book is a primer on everything that is new in this alternative universe. This is good for new listeners to this genre that need the detailed explanation, but not so for a veteran to the genre.

Slow start but great foundation and gritty realism

The story has a very slow initial start with a lot of background information given and foundational details to best understand the politics. The story quickly picks up and leaves you with a cliffhanger on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. Though the story could have been faster paced, the gritty realism helps make up for it and provides enough incentive to keep you captivated for more.

When will the other 4 books come out?

I want the MMOlit genre to succeed. This by far one of the best written so far. Unlike others, the reading of the character sheet has been condensed into tiny chapters, so you can skip over them. I like the unique approach to joining the game. i hope the other books will soon be released.
