Publisher's summary

What if your darkest sins materialized, seeking your annihilation? And what if your only salvation was to accept the touch of forgiveness from someone who could then claim your soul? This is the terrifying power Reverend Zachary Bright has over the townspeople of Silver Springs, Washington.

In Crescent Lake, Nick Murphy, a mob informant trying to atone for his crimes - and his role in a tragic accident that killed his wife and daughter - is placed into a witness-relocation program and sent to a small, scenic town believed to be the perfect hideout. But from his first day in Silver Springs, he finds himself in a different kind of life-and-death struggle, one where his past sins have come back to haunt him. He and FBI agent Audrey Harper are quickly caught up in supernatural events and bizarre miracles, and must contend with a town besieged by religious fanaticism – and an enemy that can raise the dead. And while a ruthless mob assassin closes in on Nick’s location, Reverend Bright plans to expand his dark ministry across the country.

Nick and Audrey must overcome their own dredged-up sins and then rally the few residents that have somehow resisted the Reverend’s influence. They will make a last stand against the whole town; but first, they must confront what rests at the bottom of the nearby lake - the source of the Reverend’s unholy power.

thankfully free

The woman FBI agent made it tough, she fell in love right away and was pretty soft at moments because of it. The supernatural part of the story was thought provoking and the power of religion in the hand of an ego maniac out for control, adds a horror type feeling because history is filled with those type monsters.

The book was alright

I feelnlike I should lolisten again as I really missed if they actually explained what was happening in the lake and what it had to do with Nick. Maybe some day. I thought the performance was great.

Not for Everyone

This novel starts out on a pretty good path. The main character, Nick, seems likable and engaging-- and totally out of his element. That's certainly something most of us can relate to. FBI agent Audrey is also an interesting character, although it felt like the wheels on this literary bus were starting to fall off when she came into the picture. Actually, pretty much all the characters are nicely done, and the reader gets a feeling that they've fallen into an old horror flick. Interesting.

But it's really more like a poor man's Stephen King read, with mind-boggling events and crazy solutions. It was interesting, and I enjoyed a good bit about it. But I did have trouble with my suspension of belief in this novel. I can see why many would find this a very enjoyable read. I can also see how some will find it absolutely ridiculous and not worth their time.

If you're a fan of Stephen King-type horror novels that involve unknown creatures and otherworldly events, you'll probably enjoy this one. Think "Tommyknockers" or the old movie "Cocoon." If those don't appeal to you, this novel probably won't either.

A WACKY WILD RIDE !!!!

So much fun. A scary supernatural tale that revolves around a guy in an FBI Witness Protection Plan. I’m surprised at how much time I’ve invested in this madcap adventure. This one has it all folks, including a love story! The narrator is great & he really carries this book. He’s the main reason I kept listening. Want an escape from the real world for a few hours? You’ve found it right here. So nutty I can’t even explain the storyline. Jump in & check it out. It’s free! You’ve got nothing to lose but your own sanity & a little time. Lol!

Gripping story with some character issues

I don’t want to give much away, but I will say that I’m disappointed with the way the female main character is written. She is an FBI agent who has SOME of the tough characteristics to be expected with that title, but quickly turns into ‘the girl’ when it’s convenient. She’s suddenly is far more driven by romantic feelings for a man she just met than her training, assignment, and career. This wasn’t necessary and seems totally improbable. Feels like the author is unaware of what a woman goes through and the additional pressure and challenges for women in a field like that and turns her into a more traditional female, submissive, role when convenient. Like she would be seeking protection from a man, just because she’s attracted to him, which is not reasonable for a woman in her position. The story itself is good… but the way she’s portrayed bothered me throughout. The person reading seemed to contribute to her weakness in his portrayal as well.
