Publisher's summary

Drawing on historical documents and exclusive interviews, authors tell the inspiring story of Clarence Thomas's rise from a childhood of poverty and prejudice in the segregated South to Supreme Court Justice. Companion to blockbuster documentary Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, but a fascinating stand alone listen, as well!

*The full story behind the wildly successful documentary film, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words*

Born into dire poverty in the segregated South and abandoned by his father as a child, Justice Clarence Thomas triumphed over seemingly insurmountable odds to become one of the most influential justices on the Supreme Court. Yet after three decades of honorable service, few know him beyond his contentious confirmation and the surrounding media firestorm.

Who is Justice Clarence Thomas, in his own words?

In the follow-up to the wildly successful documentary by the same name, Created Equal builds on dozens of hours of groundbreaking one-on-one interviews with Thomas to share a new, expanded account of his powerful story for the first time.

Producer Michael Pack and Mark Paoletta, a lawyer who worked alongside Thomas during his confirmation, dive deep into the Justice’s story. Drawing on a rich array of historical documents and unreleased conversations with Thomas, his wife, and those who knew him best, Created Equal is a timeless account of faith, race, power, and personal resilience.

What an extraordinary man!

I am so grateful to Justice Thomas for sharing the stories of his life experiences, so we can all better understand how important and what a difference it can make to be raised and surrounded by people who love God, teach the lessons and values found in the Bible, have faith, integrity, work ethic, and who are a positive influence. His life story is very very special.

Enlightening & Moving

Despite my age, I've known nothing of Clarence Thomas other than he's a Constitutional Justice, and the Anita Hill crap from 1991. I jumped into the audio book after watching the movie of the same title. I found the book to be enlightening, and very moving. I now recognize Justice Thomas as a great, and humble, man who truly lived the American dream; creating an honorable life through effort and perseverance, not handouts and affirmative action programs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys biographical reads, who have an interest in Constitutional law, and/or a desire to learn about this incredible man. Performances were also great for Justice Thomas and his beloved wife, Ginny.

Impressive….inspiring

Every life is filled with challenges. Some much more more than others. The life of Clarence Thomas reminds me that I have not just the ability for the obligation to meet and overcome my challenges. I have found his life story to be both instructive, edifying and inspiring. I highly recommend this book.

Not quite what I expected

I would have enjoyed this more if it was a continuous autobiography in the Clarence’s own words, but it was more of a narration and putting together of interview questions. I still thought it insightful and interesting, knowing nothing about Justice Thomas’s life before.

America's best Supreme Court Justice

I was a very young man, maybe 23, when Thomas was appointed to the Supreme Court. He was an affirmative action placement because, bright as he is, he did not have the resume for the job at the time it was awarded. That just tells me how weak resume-evaluations can be... because he is an incredible man with an incredible history. He's smart. He works hard. He's humble. He's kind. He adheres to the constitution as best he can. He epitomizes what it is to be an American.
