Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author James Rollins comes a shocking short story. A chance mishap leads to the discovery of a weapon like no other in Crash and Burn.

On a transatlantic flight, the two black sheep of Sigma Force - Seichan and Kowalski - must set aside their mutual dislike as a mysterious fiery force knocks their aircraft out of the sky. This unlikely duo must use every skill, weapon, and bit of ingenuity to survive a night on a remote volcanic island, where their only refuge is the haunted, bat-plagued grounds of a seemingly deserted resort. But something horrific awaits the two, something born of the latest science but rooted in our basest human instincts. To survive they will need to learn to work together - but even then, it may be too late.

good read

the narrative and storyline are both good. The narrator is great at performing the voices; it makes the story flow to hear them. having Kowalski and Sechwan(?) in a story together is enough to tell you there will be lots of excitement and this story holds it. Good short story.

Not Worth It

I really enjoy the Sigma Force novels, and to a lesser degree the shorts, but lately the shorts have been rip offs w/ less content, and more blurbs for the next book... To boot, although some interesting science, application to the story lacks... E.g. How does the wave manage to ignore the protagonists? I do love Kowalski, and he does tend to steal the stage, but he couldn't save this from being mediocre...

EVEN THE SUN COULD NOT HOLD OFF THE DARKNESS

As Rollins says at the end of the book, as he is patting himself on the back, he may be the only one to write about this type of EMP. I'm not knocking him, although him and James Patterson sure like to promote themselves. Anyways, I liked what he did with the EMP. This story was almost 100% action, and I just could not get into it. As another reviewer said, he needed to flesh out the tech more and I didn't care for the excerpt of his next book.

Narrator seem a little strange. You would think Rollins could afford a better narrator.

Same Ole Same

What would have made Crash and Burn better?

Maybe it's me but this was the same ole same from the series. Nothing new to listen to, formulaic and predictable.

Love James Rollins, but I couldn't get engaged

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Most notably, I could not get engaged with the audio version of this book. The way it was read was very distracting to me, which was a large letdown. I tried multiple times to get into the book but at the end just found another book.

Would you be willing to try another book from James Rollins? Why or why not?

Absolutely, I've loved all of his books and his blend of action, science, and character development. I think the reading of this one was the reason I couldn't enjoy it.

How could the performance have been better?

There was something very distracting regarding the performance. I would find myself uninterested throughout the story.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes, I've never been disappointed by a James Rollins story.
