Publisher's Summary

In Toast on Toast - part memoir, part "how to act" manual - Steven Toast draws on his vast and varied experiences, providing the reader with an invaluable insight into his journey from school plays to RADA and from "It's a Right Royal Knockout" to the Colony Club.

Along the way he reveals the secrets of his success. He discloses how to brush up on and expand your technical and vocal skills, how to nail a professional voiceover, and how to deal with difficult work experience staff in a recording studio. He also reveals the dangers of typecasting, describes the often ruthless struggle for 'top billing', and shares many awesome nuggets of advice.

The end result is a book that will inspire and educate anyone who wants to tread the floorboards. It will also inform (and entertain) anybody who simply wants to discover what a jobbing actor's life is actually like.

    "Helpless with laughter!"

Matt Berry as the irrepressible actor Steven Toast brings his shockingly candid and "autobiography" to life. Berry's performance is brilliantly sustained and hysterically funny. Toast is a wondrous creation. This audiobook is s must for all fans of the CH4 TV series. For large parts of the book I was literally helpless with laughter. I had to switch it off while driving for fear of crashing. Whilst listening with headphones on the train I got funny looks from fellow passengers as tears of laughter rolled down my face. Yes, it really was that funny! I loved it!

"The second best moustache in showbusiness."

Advice and anecdotes from mediocre actor and self-proclaimed 'star of stage and screen' Steven Toast. Toast himself brings this ghostwritten tripe to life with his thankfully unique vocal style.

He's no Ray Purchase, is he?

Would you listen to Toast on Toast again? Why?

Absolutely. It's essential listening for the unemployed actor and or the full time employee stuck on a zero hours contract. It made my spirit sore and my sides soar....no hold on

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of them....Fancy Alexander sounds robust....and Rebecca Banana sounds hot also

    Any additional comments?

"My desire for Steven Toast is like a rocket"

There is nobody better than the accomplished Steven Toast to take you through the nuanced life of an actor. We will never get a richer account of the world through the eyes of a great man like this again. I laughed and I smiled, mainly because I wanted to impress a lady on the train platform. But I also wept tears of joy. Matt Berry is the funniest man alive today. Keep making comedy Matt!

Where does Toast on Toast rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved this audiobook! Occasionally when listening to audiobooks I find some of the readers overact a touch, giving somewhat overripe characterisation. Perhaps they should take a note from Toast's guide for aspiring actors.
This is a glorious story and fans of the cult TV show will not be disappointed as he regales the listener with his thoughts on his agent, Jane and the other folks he has crossed paths with in his 50 year long career.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Toast, of course!

What does Matt Berry - as Steven Toast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Listening to this book is the best possible way of enjoying this story. The misplaced emphasises in words, the actorly voice and the relish with which he drops the f bomb all make for a terrific listen.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted this one to last as long as possible

    Any additional comments?

Steven Toast, the actor's actor, relates tales from his long and not altogether illustrious carrier. Peppered with advice for fellow thesps and some critical insight into the acting profession of his own this is a great listen. Now, Mrs Purchase, where did you put those pickled onions?

Would you consider the audio edition of Toast on Toast to be better than the print version?

I havent read the print edition but I would imagine it loses some of the authenticity of the text that the Audio version holds

What could Steven Toast have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

very little. He's that sort of man

What does Matt Berry - as Steven Toast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

That silky voice, those rolled letters, that velvetty voice like warm butter.....on Toast

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's pretty short but boundlessly fascinating so yeah, probably

    Any additional comments?

yes I can hear you Clem Fandango

    "Toast Fans Won't be Disappointed"
If you could sum up Toast on Toast in three words, what would they be?

    High Winds Specialist

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Definitely the most fascinating work is how Toast has peeled back the large conspiracy curtain hiding the identity of Prince Harry and the murderous collusion between the Met Police and RADA.

Have you listened to any of Matt Berry - as Steven Toast’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Fans of Toast will like it. I count myself in that group. He weaves in familiar story lines from Toast of London in places but much of the story is new.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Moved.... hmmmm.

    "Hot Buttery Toast"

Any fan of the RADA trained Steven Toast would do well to pick up this illuminating book. Read by the author with a velvety smooth delivery this book covers much of the infamous actor/wild man's career thus far. Toast seems willing to tell all about the theatrical world, indeed no cow is too scared for Toast to probe. Aspiring actors are advised to take note of Toast's Tips - valuable advice from a veteran of the acting profession. You will struggle to find a better book written and read by Steven Toast.
