Publisher's summary

The eagerly awaited new audiobook from the Emmy-winning, Oscar-hosting, Daily Show-anchoring Jon Stewart - the man behind the mega seller America (The Book).

Where do we come from? Who created us? Why are we here? These questions have puzzled us since the dawn of time, but when it became apparent to Jon Stewart and the writers of The Daily Show that the world was about to end, they embarked on a massive mission to write a book that summed up the human race: What we looked like; what we accomplished; our achievements in society, government, religion, science and culture.

After two weeks of hard work, they had their book. Earth (The Book) is the definitive guide to our species. With their trademark wit, irreverence, and intelligence, Stewart and his team will posthumously answer all of life's most hard-hitting questions, completely unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity, or even accuracy.

Hilarious

Love the satirical nature of this book :)
An extraterrestrial view of the triumphs and mostly pitfalls of human history.

Buy the hardcover

Okay, first off, the reason for my low rating is not on the quality of the book (it deserves 4.5 stars), but rather to steer people away from the audible version and to purchase the actual book. The jokes are funny in the audible version, but are MUCH better in the actual book! This book is designed to be viewed not heard.

With that said, I did enjoy listening to the book, although I did read the copy I bought for my wife. I do think the price is rather steep for less than 4 hours of content, but this is John Stewart, and I feel he was worth it.

As bad a production as America (The Book)

Would you try another book from Jon Stewart and/or the narrators?

Probably, I love Jon and the Daily Show, but someone needs to teach him how to sparkle on audio as much as he does when he can be seen - the rest of the cast wasn't bad at all.

What could Jon Stewart have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Had a better director, there is no reason a performer like Jon should sound bored with his own words. I know what he was going for and it failed.

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

The performance came across as dismissive, bored with his own work. Also, I don't know WHAT the director/editor was thinking with those chapter headings, they pulled the whole mood into slightly patronizing academia every time.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The performances of the other cast members (unfortunately, it's mostly Jon)

Any additional comments?

Not even the text could redeem this one - the performance needed to redeem the text (and could have with a good audio book director. The letter to the aliens after the big Oops! was a potentially good concept but the information was elementary school level, while the language was for adults. I'll be returning this one, too.

the performance was distracting

I really thought I would like this book, as I love the Daily show. All the sound effects and the jumping around of narraters was so awful I couldn't finish.

Jon is so much better than this effort!

What would have made The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Audiobook) better?

The story was not funny. Jon Stewart's humor is so much better than this effort, every night!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Jon narrated it but the story wasn't funny or insightful.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Just not creative or new

Nothing new or creative. Like watch an episode of the the Flinstone in black and white dubbed in Aramaic….

Earthy as in stinks

I'm a fan of the Daily show, and really loved the America audiobook, which I've listened to many times over the years. This book, while outwardly similar, has a completely different, and for me, 'way worser' tone. The book is a letter written to aliens who might stumble upon our planet after the human race becomes extinct. Whether or not you can laugh at it will now depend on how easy it is for you to a.) chuckle at the end of life as we know it and b.) get used to listening to an imagined conversation between Jon Stewart (now dead) and a space alien. I couldn't manage either of those tricks. I found the material dark unto crotchety and. with the exception of Sam Bee, the new correspondants seem stiffly uninspired in their performances.
Of all the things on Earth, I missed Stephen Colbert most of all.

Fewer F-words though. Still plenty to offend people who get offended by such things but, definitely fewer than in the last book. I hated it.

This isnt an audio-book it's a badpinball game!

I???m kind of embarrassed for Jon Stewart. And I???m equally embarrassed that I???m listening to his audio-book. His last production ???America??? was light, but really funny. This audio-book is just plain bad. Well over half of the sophomoric content is stand-up one-off???s without substantial substance. Perhaps to mask the uneven content, he chose to over-dub the production with every bell and whistle imaginable (including actual annoying bells and whistles). This is not an audio-book it is a pinball game. The fast moving mix of extreme character actors completely override any salient jokes. I often characterize a book (or audio-book) as ???a good bathroom book??? (meaning, you can pick it up in 15 min. increments and still enjoy it). Jon Stewart???s ???Earth??? is a bad bathroom book, that I will now simply flush ...and wash my hands... remember to always wash your hands.

Definitely not the best of Jon Stewart.

What disappointed you about The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Audiobook)?

I loved his first book; laughed at every page. This one left me waiting for something to strike my funny bone. Don't know if it was format, story or lack of, but nothing grabbed me at all. Disappointed.
