Publisher's summary

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Stephen Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for "truthiness" and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it.

The author describes his audiobook as a simple audiobook from a simple mind: Stephen Colbert's. In plain conversational language, not to mention the occasional grunt and/or whistle, Stephen explains his take on the most pressing concerns of our culture: faith, family...hygiene.

Why now? Stephen fears America has lost its balls and he hopes to re-ballify us...even the ladies. Ladies can have balls: lady-balls too. Stephen likes to call those "Thatchers". Stephen will show how he got his mammoth swinging sack with tales of courage and vital documents from his own life, including the Mother's Day card he made at age six, disputed credit-card bills, and putt-putt score cards - all the major milestones.

Vaguely Funny

I've never really watched the Colbert Report, but from what I gather, it's a ridiculously funny show.

From this book, I couldn't tell.

Though I admittedly laughed a few times, I'm guessing what works on TV doesn't necessarily work "in print" (I feel the same way about George Carlin -- I'm a big fan, but his books fell flat). Most of the jokes were unfunny, the topics uninteresting, and a sheer waste of listening time.

I definitely don't recommend this, except for the most die-hard Colbert fans (who will likely find more enjoyment buying DVDs of the show).

Empty

Doesn't offer anything to think about. His writers must have been on strike when he put this out. Love the show.

Disapoitng

Would you try another book from Stephen Colbert and/or Stephen Colbert?

maybe, but need to know it is not another biography.

Would you ever listen to anything by Stephen Colbert again?

Yes.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Colbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. It compares badly to his other work.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from I Am America (And So Can You!)?

his life story.

A Little Effort Please

This was nothing but a disappointment. I'm a big fan of his show and this was no where near that caliber. It's not clever, just fairly unfunny things said in character. I'm wondering if he saved money by not letting his staff writers help on this.

Not Up to His Show

I adore him on the Report, and try never to miss it, but this sounded to me like "out-takes." The religion descriptions are pretty funny, though, and I'm sure die-hard fans will love it.

Boring. Not worth it.

I love commedy. I love talk shows. I love Bill Maher and other intelligent pundits. I HATED this book. Listened for 10 minutes and deleted from my player. It's boring. No real insights. Tries to be controversial, but he's not really, or just doesn't have a point.

sometimes funny

Unlike his show, this is only sometimes funny, and is mostly tedious and boring.
