Publisher's summary

Airstrikes rain down, Gatling guns pound, and snipers lurk in the distance - welcome to the combat aid station of a young doctor embedded with the heavily weaponized First Marines Division as the Battle of Fallujah boils over.

On the night of April 4, 2004, First Marine Expeditionary Forces launch a major assault on the city of Fallujah. US Navy Lieutenant Donnelly Wilkes' battalion leads the assault into Fallujah as he is positioned with navy corpsmen and marines at the tactical highway intersection called "The Cloverleaf". Rarely have US military physicians been so close to combat in a major conflict as they were in the chaotic, embattled streets of Fallujah - Code Red Fallujah will take you there.

Sharing the harrowing entries from his field diary, Wilkes becomes the first-ever navy physician to recount the sights and sounds of one of the most violent events of the entire Iraq War. In heart-pounding detail, he divulges his struggles to save wounded warriors amid rockets landing close enough to knock him off his feet. When Wilkes - fresh out of medical school - is suddenly thrust into this war zone, his skills, his faith, and his ability to endure are all put to the test. Code Red Fallujah is the firsthand narrative of Wilkes' role in the Battle of Fallujah, scintillating combat trauma, and the spiritual challenges that pierced his journey.

Real hero’s

I found this book to be a great read. We don’t hear enough about the behind the scene hero’s. He describes in great detail what it feels like to save lives and in some cases watch one of our soldiers die. Very sad to listen to the truth about battles. . I like the book and since he is also my primary care Dr I can picture him him doing his best to save lives.

What an inspirational account of a doctor at war

I'm extremely proud to be a part of Dr Wilke's medical services and even more so now after reading this book. Thank you a great account of medical leadership and for inspiring many of us non-medical leaders with your words of encouragement and direction.

Heart wrenching.

Book from a surgeons perspective. About how they take care of wounded marines. Broke my heart. Was hard for me to read. Semper Fi to all my fellow marines.

Very good

Even though it’s a free book, it’s WAY better than I expected. Great representation of those events.

Very inspiring and touching

I really enjoyed this story and the inspiration and encouragement it gives. I liked getting a little insight on how it felt to be in combat, fight for our country in the way he did as a doctor, and how he endured the pain and anguish of the losses of his patients and friends and his honest accounting of how hard it is to be deployed in the military. I'm hoping there will be another book to hear about his second deployment, and the differences and successes in life. Thanks to Dr. Wilkes and all those in combat and behind the scenes who work to help make our country safe every day. I will recommend this book to all readers.

New insight

I really enjoyed the performance of the reader I find when it’s a real life person I’m more captivated by the story versus the virtual AI.

Humbled

Another story of sacrifice and love of country and God, it never gets old our country needs more stories like this. We are living in dark times, and need more examples of men and women who are willing to sacrifice. Thank you for sharing.
