Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Excellent!!
Would you listen to WDA Classics Presents Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow again? Why?
Absolutely! The story and content are classical and timeless. I normally prefer to read books but have recently begun listening to stories i've read in audio form to see how I like audio books. I love it - I especially enjoy WB Wards style and characteristic rhythm that provides an enjoyable addition to the experience.,
Have you listened to any of W.B. Ward’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to more than one of his narrations. I consider myself a fan of his and find myself downloading and listening to books I may not have otherwise even considered. I've yet to come across a book i did not enjoy that he has narrated. Even books in genres that are not typical for me.

A marvelous rendition
This is the classic tale that has inspired numerous movies, TV shows, and stories. The narrator does an outstanding job capturing the comedy and terror of the story. Using voice inflection that acts like a frame drawing you into the story itself. This is well worth a listen, you will not be disappointed!

Well Read
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have always loved The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and would highly recommend this book to all of my friends. I read the book years ago and enjoyed it. I don't get much time to read these days so books on audio are the closest I can come.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ichabod is without a doubt my favorite character. I always love the main character because you can get to know them much more with the way the story follows him
What does W.B. Ward bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This Reader puts a lot of emotion and personality into the reading of this book and makes it hard to turn off.

Excellent!
Mr. Ward has performed an oustanding rendition of a timeless classic. I listened while I was at work during night shift, and - even though I was in a fully lighted building - I could still feel a cold shiver as he described the Hessian horseman and his ghostly antics. An excellent story read by and marvelous performer!

You Must Listen to this American Classic!
If you could sum up WDA Classics Presents Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in three words, what would they be?
I've heard the story of Sleepy Hollow (sometimes called The Headless Horseman) since I was a child. From seeing it as the Disney cartoon to required reading in school. Hearing WB Ward's rendition of it takes the story to a whole new level that Washington Irving would be proud of. What makes this telling was the telling of what the little village of Sleepy Hollow was like and just how superstitious the people were after the civil war. Ward's voice inflections not only added humor in the right places (which made me chuckle) to the creepiness for a person who had to ride off into a foggy night by himself. I can see how people got so superstitious back then.
What other book might you compare WDA Classics Presents Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to and why?
I would compare this story to the Pit and the Pendulum. Even though both were read by Mr. Ward and one book was about a murdering madman. The inflections of Mr. Ward added the added creepiness you don't get from reading. It's like sitting around a campfire listening to ghost stories,
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene where Ichabod Crane was being chased by the Headless Horseman. It was so funny in parts (where Gunpowder ran into the fence sideways and ran into the briars). Also, the description of the Headless Horseman himself as he chased Ichabod. WB Ward's inflections made this suspenseful and creepy!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Ichabod didn't get Katrina but the bully did instead. I felt sorry for him.
Any additional comments?
No.
