Publisher's summary

Treasure Island must be the most enthralling adventure book ever written. As we listen to the voice of Jim Hawkins telling his extraordinary tale, and later that of his companion, Dr. Livesey, we are plunged into a world of pirates, buried treasure, mutiny, and deceit. We meet Billy Bones, Blind Pew, Black Dog, and, of course, the charming buccaneer Long John Silver. The action and adventure never falter, and the spell of this enduring story is sustained until the very last word.

Critic reviews

"This best-ever adventure story...has the same mesmeric ability to keep you hanging on every word.... It has all that's required of a ripping yarn." ( The Guardian)

Excellent

It's been many years since I read this book. The story is as good as I remembered it and the narration is excellent. This reader brings not only excellent voice characterization to the reading but also enthusiasm. Too many books are read in a boring, almost monotone, presentation. This narrator really brings the story to life. I listened to samples of other readers narrating this book and I'm very glad indeed that I chose this one.

Fantastic Narrator

The narrator makes the story come alive! This is a classic worth listening to even if you've read it many times before. Jasper Britton is amazing at recreating the feel of the times through his narration. Highly recommended.

If you could sum up Treasure Island in three words, what would they be?

Excitement, Fun, Good Time
You should definitely listen to this classic even if you have read it before. Absolutely worth every minute.

What does Jasper Britton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jasper Britton has put a perfect performance. It was as if I were watching him play the whole script on a theater, such liveliness and such emotion combined for this story, it made the whole book real as if it were happening just around me.

Good Story, But Outdated Writing

The story is still just as exciting, but the writing/presentation of it is not very good- energetic moments become boring as they are dragged out passed their welcome, dialogue portions are too long, and the links between events arent fluid. Fully taking into account the year this book was written, it just did not age as well as other older books such as 20000 Leagues by Jules Verne or The Time Machine by HG Wells. Despite my disfavor towards the writing style, the story is still very good.

A Treasure

Very well done. Good for multiple listenings. No false notes on the narration. four stars? Well I guess I am a harsh critic.
