Publisher's summary

Of all the colorful cutthroats who scoured the seas in search of plunder during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century, none was more ferocious or notorious than Blackbeard. As unforgettable as his savage career was, much of Blackbeard's life has been shrouded in mystery - until now.

Drawing on vivid descriptions of Blackbeard's attacks from his rare surviving victims, pirate expert Angus Konstam traces Blackbeard's career from its beginnings to his final defeat in a tremendous sea battle near his base at Ocracoke Island.

Presenting dramatic accounts of the pirate's very effective tactics and his reputation for cruelty, Konstam offers a fascinating examination of the life and business of piracy and the lure of this brutal and bloody trade.

Info not up to date, too much info we already know

Info not up to date, too much info we already know. I was hoping that this would include newer details that have been discovered. Too many chapters trying to educate us about piracy that we already know. Maybe good for someone new to piracy & Blackbeard.

All hands, prepare to come ashore by reading this beautifully written biography!

Greatest Black Beard Biography I’ve read so far! The narration was done beautifully, so far my favorite pirate! Yo Ho!

It’s alright

Informative if a little dry. I’ve read/listened to a decent number of pirate history books at this point and if you have too this is good but not what I’d call necessary reading. The broad stokes of Blackbeard’s career are mostly what people have to go on so it feels like there was a good bit of filler in here.
Still well done, I was just hoping for more about the man than I’d already heard elsewhere.

Title is misleading

Decent book covering the time period,
but not a book on Blackbeard as the title suggests. Yes of course he is mentioned as well as other pirates of the time.
More of just a general history of pirates during that time period.

Bleh.

Narrators voice is annoying. Story doesn’t seem real. Kind of clumsily written. Glazes over important stuff. Couldn’t finish. Bleh.

Not factual

was going to listen to this but we already know that blackbeard never murdered anyone. there is no factual evidence stating he ever did yet the entire description of this book paints him as a vicious man who left victims in his wake. Can't listen to it off the fact that if the description is already lying, who knows what else they lie about within the book.
