Publisher's summary

Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of eponymous Jane Eyre, her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

Loud and Soft

Any additional comments?

I chose this version because the narrator had good reviews, and the price was right. The narrator is indeed very good, except for one thing. I think there should be a rule against dramatically and suddenly changing one's reading volume. I understand that she was realistically interpreting different characters in different situations. School administrators do have to raise their voices when calling children to order. But when I have an earbud in my ear, it's disturbing to be listening carefully to a low volume voice and then experience a sudden change in volume that could burst an eardrum. Often the narrator reads so low, I have to turn the volume up, and before I can get accustomed to it, she raises her voice to extra loud. It's very disconcerting.

Generally ok

Whenever she reads the French accent (Adele), I would have no clue of what was going on... But other than that, everything else seemed fine.

What a wonderful story! 5 stars!

Full of romance, mystery, and loveable characters and has a wonderful happy ending. No tragedies for me thank u very much! I've read (and been disappointed) by enough! This one is a happy tears kind of story. If u like Jane Austen you'll love this.
Also Excellent narration, good English accent-- Emma Messenger is a great story teller.

Narrator brings characters to life

The narrator in this unabridged version was excellent as she affected her voice to project Jane's character as well as Mr. R's and other character's. I loved this audio book.
