Publisher's summary

One of Jane Austen's most popular novels. Arrogant, self-willed, and egotistical, Emma is her most unusual heroine.

Excellent performance

Juliet Stevenson did an amazing job with this tale. The story is a classic but not a good one for those unconcerned with the daily trails of upper society in England. However it is a great story of the schemes of love and life.

Lovely

Juliet Stevenson is my favorite narrator. Always does a wonderful job. While Emma is not my favorite in the cannon, it’s still a five star story.

Jane Austin is the fucking best

Where does Emma rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best. The narrator actually gives a performance, doesn't just read changing up the voices. She adds inflection, emotion, and personality into each character. Top notch.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Emma?

Not knowing who was going to hook up with whom and the fact Emma doesn't actually NEED a man to be self-fulfilled.

Which scene was your favorite?

too many to choose from.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Emma is admonished for talking down to Miss Bates by Mr. Knightly and then redeems herself in his eyes. Shows real character development in such a subtle and human way.

Any additional comments?

I cannot recommend this book or any other by Austin highly enough. She is the pinnacle of English writing in my eyes. Forget that Shakespeare dude.

Enjoyable

Even though Emma is not my favorite Austen novel, Juliet Stevenson made it very enjoyable.

Most magnificently nareated

Being English my second language, the clear and soft narration of this book by Juliet Stevenson makes it a world of enjoyment. I'm looking forward to my next book narrated by Ms. Stevenson.

Emma - Completing my Reading of Jane Austen

Story: Much the same as the other two crown jewels of her works but still very good. As always, a must read for a liberal education and to experience the life in England in the late 18th century.

Reader: Excellent.

Production: Excellent.

Perfect

Juliet Stevenson just shines in this reading. I will purchase a book because she reads it. So well performed. Such a joy to listen to!

Book over Video, hands down

Would you listen to Emma [Naxos] again? Why?

Being an avowed romantic, I had to re-hear the scene on Boxhill and that of Knightley's declaration of love.

What other book might you compare Emma [Naxos] to and why?

anything by Jane

What does Juliet Stevenson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have been distractedly in love with Juliet Stevenson's voice. Her giftedness makes any book a triumph of success as characters come to life in vivid tones.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Jane Austen and Juliet Stevenson are a combination making it painful to stop listening. I've spent a few extra hours in parking lots unable to leave the car.

Any additional comments?

another great Austen novel

I loved this book! I have long been a fan of Pride and Prejudice, but until now have not read any of Jane Austen's other work. I am so glad that I did! Emma was just as beautifully written, and just as fun and witty. The narration was excellent and did not distract from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience when listening to this audiobook.
