My first audio book and I loved it!

A fabulous narrator and a great story. Considering how Dickens wrote this story as a serial over many many months, without being able to backtrack and change anything to suit the plot as it developed, I found the story an amazing achievement. Martin Jarvis's narration was perfect and I grew so used to hearing his voice over the weeks that now I miss it. It was my first experience of David Copperfield and I enjoyed meeting characters that have become quintessential in English literature. Dickens was an astute fellow. The rounding off of all the different threads as the story came to it's conclusion was wonderful. I loved it! I now have A Tale of Two Cities in my shopping cart.

AWESOME

What a wonderful story. Mezmerising characters. I listened to the entire story without pausing unless absolutely necessary. I made sure my pants had pockets in which to carry my zune with me at all times. Did not want this book to end. The narrator was one of the best I have listened too.

Brilliant Narrator

Martin Jarvis' narration of this book was nothing short of brilliant. He really made the characters come to life and coloured in the story. It was like seeing a black and white film in colour for the first time. I'm working my way through all of Dickens books and am really glad I got this one. I'll certainly be looking forward to hearing more of Jarvis.

This book was not quite as action packed and fraught with evil deeds as some of Dickens' other works, but it's a good tale all the same. It's fascinating to watch as the characters develop and change over time. It's fun, positive and full of characters that seem like old friends by the time you finish. Loved it.

A real treasure

I have newly "rediscovered" Dickens, and what a wonderful time it's been. Listening to David Copperfield was absolutely delightful. Mr. Jarvis is a phenomenal narrator. When a reader can make the listener so engaged with the characters that the listener forgets that he or she is, in fact, listening to someone READ ... well, that's a rare gift indeed. I would recommend not only this story, but this telling of the story, to anyone - and I wish Mr. Jarvis a long and ... storied... career!

Absolutely magical

I imagine that if Dickens were alive he would be just as enthralled by Martin Jarvis as the Audible audience will be. Jarvis makes every character come alive and brings out Dickens's genius as a storyteller, a judge of character, and a write of great flexibility and skill. Sheer pleasure from beginning to end.
