Outstanding Performance by Martin Jarvis!!

Martin Jarvis is an excellent narrator! This is a wonderful tale, and very long novel to listen to, To thoroughly enjoy it, you need to settle in to a narrator that has keeps you engaged. Martin Jarvis does this to perfection. His different voices of the characters are all unique and "performed" so very well. His energy level throughout the novel is inspiring. I can hardly imagine the countless hours of preparation required to read this 34 hour novel so flawlessly. You will love this reading of David Copperfield.

Excellent Story, Delightful Performance!

This is a wonderful book. I'm so glad I got it as an audible because the performance is so very enjoyable. The narrator does the best voices! I couldn't have imagined the voices nearly as well as he performs them. The pace is perfect. The characters are very well developed and so fun to get to know. I think any person of any age would enjoy listening to this wonderful book.

Famously Unforgettable Characters

A most enjoyable Dickens novel, read by Martin Jarvis, a superior narrator. Appearing herein is Wilkins Micawber, perhaps the fictional character most alluded to by writers, politicians, and generals since his presentation to the world in 1850. However, this book also gives us Uriah Heep, alluded to fairly often; Aunt Betsy, a stout Victorian lib who obsessively chases donkeys off her lawn; Peggity; Barkus "is willin"; and the dreadful Murdstones, just to name a few. Many characters are masterfully interwoven in plots and sub-plots. As expected in Dickens' novels, the good are very good, and the bad very bad. Martin Jarvis carries them all, with an appropriate voice for each. Every narrator should be as good as Jarvis. The only character and sub-plot I could have wished less of is Dora. Copperfield's mooning on and on about her gets tiring, but that's my own preference and shouldn't influence others' perceptions of the characters. For sheer entertainment, this is one of the best.

Wow!

This was my first try at Copperfield and only my second Dickens audio book (first was A Tale of Two Cities). From my rating you can see that I loved the story and performance. The story seemed to begin a bit of a drag about midway through the second of four segments. As I began to see how Dickens was developing characters, the "dragging" phenomenon was short-lived. The final two segments flew by.
The performance was great. For me, the narrator made the story far more interesting than it would have been if I had read a printed book. I'll look for other books narrated by Martin Jarvis.
Overall, very well worth the investment of time and money.

Come for the Dickens the Writer- Stay for Jarvis’ Reading...

I have listened to many audiobooks and this is my third of Dickens and I have to say Martin Jarvis’ narration and supreme command of the medium as well as of the colorful dialects that populate Dickens renowned tapestry of nuanced human beings is unmatched. What a fine actor and storyteller to give us a rich experience of one of the Earth’s greatest writers! Bravo!

Best narrator ever

This is worth the read just to hear this narrator. The story is good, but the performance is what makes it great.
