Classic

The narrator of this classic novel was superb. The only trouble I had was in identifying the characters due to their long Russian names. The story was captivating and an insight into Russian life and poverty in the mid 1800’s. Worth the listen.

Wonderful narration!

I would never have been able to read this book with such attention to detail and to the mental state of the characters without the outstanding narration of Anthony Heald. His reading was a performance of the highest quality.

Great performance!

The reader did an excellent job with the character voices and made it possible to keep the characters (and their myriad of Russian names) easily sorted and straight while listening!

Psychological Masterpiece

Wonderfully written, this story reminds us of the human condition by following man who is betrayed by his mind. His emotional toil resonates with the reader, igniting a hopeful spirit for desolate souls who battle with themselves. Isolation breeds contempt and this novel allows the reader to experience solitude leaving us thankful for the ones who stick with us through thick and thin.

There were parts of the book that drew away from the plot and if left out, it wouldn't have made a difference. It slowed the rhythm and I became bored, wanting more from the main characters.

This is the second time I've read this book. It was better than before.

Dense, but an important read

I wasn't really sure what to title this, but you could purse a doctorate degree studying the density of this single work. I do exaggerate, but I think at the very least that it might be too much for an audiobook because of its density. However, the work is renowned and for good reason. The path of the criminal psychologically and spiritually as portrayed in the book gives real insight into the idea of the human fall and redemption in the life of the individual. Its essential to modern thought.

Unparalleled Depth of Psychological Insight, with Superb Narration

Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment has it all, and all on the top shelf of literary accomplishment. He captures self-talk with unparalleled insight, and emotional and psychological thoughts and anguish that ring true, not only for the main character, but across an entire cast of actors. Add to that a riveting story which contains endless back stories, dialogue which is superb, and deep religious and philosophical thought, and you have a novel with few rivals. And I will venture to say that you "hear" the insanity, humanity, frailty, pride, and love that Dostoevsky is penning all the better with the masterful voice acting of Anthony Heald, who is clearly a student of the text, brings it all to life in a way my imagination could have scarcely conjured with such vivid realism. I was so moved by the entire experience that I wish I could thank both Dostoevsky and Heald for their artistry!
