Publisher's summary

In the first sequel to Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Montgomery's feisty red-headed heroine is now 16 and a school teacher in the small village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. Although older, she isn't necessarily wiser, and she hasn't outgrown her mischievous antics. She learns how complicated life can be when she takes two new orphans at Green Gables under her wings, meddles in someone else's love life, and learns about romance herself when she encounters the "odd behavior" of a very handsome man, Gilbert Blythe.

Good story - Narrator so-so

Any additional comments?

You can't go wrong with any L.M. Montgomery books. But this one isn't one of my favorites. I usually just read this one to get to next ones in the series.

The narrator's voice wasn't very appealing. I found the voices she did for children very grating. It was fine for the general narration, but her voices made me cringe a little.

Marvelous second book in the series!

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this second book in the Anne of Green Gables series! I loved the 1985 miniseries of Anne of Green Gables but never read the books beyond the first. Not sure why because they have been delightful!

In this second book, Anne is 16 years old and a teacher. Her bitter feud with Gilbert has come to an end and they are now friends. Gilbert definitely has stronger feelings for Anne, but he is patiently and slowly winning her over. Love him!

While the beloved characters from the first book are present, the second book introduces some new delightful characters. Marilla and Anne take in two orphans with the understanding that their uncle will eventually take them. The two orphans are complete opposites. Davy’s six year old self is full of mischief and goes from one disaster to another. He definitely keeps them on their toes. His sister is quiet, demure, and obedient. Miss Lavender is another favorite character as well as Mr. Harrison and his foul-mouthed parrot!

Anne is as delightful as ever with her idealistic view of life. I enjoyed the way she and Diana tried to garner donations for their Avonlea Improvement Society. I also loved her trying to navigate her first few years of teaching and trying to win her students over without resorting to harsh discipline.

The audiobook version was well done and I enjoyed the way the narrator brought each of the characters to life. She delivered just the right amount of emotion to keep the story interesting and flowing. Definitely recommend this second book in the series and am looking forward to book 3 and hopefully more of a budding romance between Anne and Gilbert!

Perfect reader of a wonderful classic

This narrator perfectly captures all the characters of Avonlea, and adds plenty of fun to the listen. A delightful audio book!

audio quality very poor

Thou I like the story and the author, the audio quality was very poor. There were long pauses between chapters (making you feel like it was a book on tape and they were waiting for you to turn the page!) and it sounded like it was taped on a cassette tape versus digial quality. I am repurchasing the title by another narrator other than Shelly Fraser. Do not waste your credits.

I love this book!

This was just as amazing and thrilling as the first one, and succeeds my exceptions completely. I love the narrator and I'm so glad Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote this book.

Timeless and Sweet

Anne of Avonlea is a wonderful timelessly sweet story. It took me back to childhood memories of reading these books and dreaming about finding friends who are kindred spirits and a boy as wonderful as Gilbert. I would recommend this book for anyone that yearns for a simpler time and a heartwarming story.
