Publisher's summary

What happens when the lights go out?

King and Slater have fought and warred all over the globe, from the desolate plains of the Russian Far East to the extreme altitudes of Nepal. Now, chaos strikes them at home. New York goes dark as malicious code infects the power grid in a devastating cyberattack.

More than eight million people across the five boroughs. No power, no running water, no sanitation. Food supplies will be exhausted within two days, and there’s no one to restock the shelves. The government has no solution to the myriad of problems that come with a major city losing electricity for a prolonged period. All King and Slater know is the code used to knock out critical substations initiated in the heart of Manhattan...and so begins a harrowing race against the clock to get the lights back on before the city plunges into anarchy. They don’t have much time; it doesn’t take long for people to panic.

As they fight their way deeper into the bowels of the city, they realize there was a reason New York was targeted. Make as many enemies as they do, and it’s bound to catch up with you eventually.

A good story, but...

Mr Rogers would do well to buy a thesaurus; he is overly-fond of misusing the verb 'skewer'. He loses one star for the freqent use of unwanted, profane expletives.
Mr Kenerly should invest in elocution lessons.
He loses one star for his very distracting habit of pronouncing words which end in 'ng' with a hard 'g' at the end. This is especially irritating when he pronounces King as 'Kinguh'.
Also, why does Audible use artists who have not read the books for which they illustrate the cover art? It seems a bit foolish and deceptive.😕

Narrator is rather addictive

Great voice. Great inflection. Sometimes I use this as background noise, then hit rewind and listen again. The Story is intense, no boring microseconds here. The characters are intense, perfect for a ADD ADHD brain as background noise. If you lack the funds for a MiG ride or a 5000 hp cigarette boat rental, listen to this author.

Characters and Reader Performance

These two character seem to be a críos between Jack Reacher and Mitch Rapp…which is awesome! The story is real-world and raw. Kind of scary in it own way. The way it is told you actually feel like you’re standing right beside Slater and King.

The reader performance is among the best I’ve listened to.

Not A Boring Moment

Saw another reviewer assert this team is like Jack Reacher combined with Mitch Rapp...I agree💯. Action, adventure, moral dilemmas, decisions made that have Huge consequences, all here, all hard charging and intelligently written. Not a boring moment!!

A Multi-Faceted Thriller

This story isn't just about two elite operatives taking out the trash in venues ranging from third world nations to here at home. The author brings the characters to life by giving us the thoughts, feelings, and insights that a world class athlete/assassin would have. These men are driven by a moral compass, not a paycheck.

Top shelf High Octane Audible book

Another superb book in the King and Slater series by Matt Rogers. The narration is simply awesome by Kevin Kenerly as he keeps you riveted to the exciting story. Rogers continues to get better with each successive book in this series. You have to have compelling antagonists or scum if you prefer and Rodgers delivers in spades. His primary characters continue to grow and develop which makes this a fun and exciting read. The story here is compelling and is not your standard action trope. Surprises abound as always in this series. Pick up and enjoy.

I'm returning all 3 books by this author. the narrator is horrible. with his attempts to sound like a woman through out the series..get real..he forgets to get out of chick mode!!

Waste of time

No where near as good as two previous books. Performance was as good as possible with such a weak story.
