Publisher's summary

When Haze Evans first appeared in the small-town newspaper, she earned fans by writing a story about her bachelor uncle who brought a Queen of the Rodeo to Thanksgiving dinner. Now, 50 years later, when the beloved columnist suffers a massive stroke and falls into a coma, publisher Susan McGrath fills the void (temporarily, she hopes) with Haze's past columns, along with the occasional reprinted responses from readers. Most letters were favorable, although Haze did have her trolls; one Joseph Snell in particular dubbed her "liberal" ideas the "chronicles of a radical hag."

Framed by news stories of half a century and annotated with the town's chorus of voices, Haze's story unfolds, as do those of others touched by the Granite Creek Gazette.

With her customary warmth and wit, Lorna Landvik summons a lifetime at once lost and recovered, a complicated past that speaks with knowing eloquence to a confused present. Her topical but timeless Chronicles of a Radical Hag reminds us - sometimes with a subtle touch, sometimes with gobsmacking humor - of the power of words and of silence, as well as the wonder of finding in each other what we never even knew we were missing.

Not the story I thought it would be, but so much better

I loved watches my Sam grow through his readings and opening his eyes to things from the past that were so relatable for him

A totally relevant story

Amazing how many hot topics were addressed in such a down to earth fashion. My husband and I both enjoyed this delightful journey of a book.

Very heart warming. A small town grows closer because of a treasured members newspaper articles. Fascinating look at history and present.

Perfect read when you're feeling down

This book is a balm for a world-weary 2022 soul. The plot is that of a comfy beach read, but the columns within the story are a review of current events from the past 50+ years. Of special interest and relevance is the column discussing Roe v. Wade from the time of its ruling, which I happened to read just a few days after it was overturned. Set in a pre-election 2016, this book helps me remember a time full of hope, even though most of those hopes have been ground into the dirt since then. I'm proud to consider myself a fellow radical hag.

I'm always a little hesitant to listen to audiobooks read by the author, but I'm so glad I took the chance with this one. Landvik has the perfect voice for this story and does a great job differentiating her many characters. It feels like being read to as a little kid by a teacher who "does the voices." I would highly recommend the audiobook over reading the book in print.

Fannie Flagg fans will love it!

I adore Fannie Flagg books and have re-read them numerous times. so I was delighted to find this author because this book reminds me so much of Flagg. I'm going to read all the rest of Landvik's books! This was such a lovely, soft read and she makes her politics go down so easy! A truly wonderful book!

A little slow to start but stay with it. Such a wonderful story!

I have loved Lorna Landvik s writing since “angry housewives eating bonbons”. Radical hag did not disappoint! I love how she incorporates important issues into her stories and helps the reader to understand through the lens of relationships. Keep writing!
