Publisher's summary

Award-winning cozy mystery by USA Today and WSJ best-selling author.

Lily Gayle and the gang set out to find a killer after local baker Luxen Natolovich is found dead hours before the grand opening weekend at the new Bed and Breakfast in town, Midnight Dragonfly. As Lily Gayle deciphers the clues around Luxen's death, she uncovers a conspiracy of lies and half-truths that could very well be tied to a refugee camp in Mississippi during World War II.

The deeper Lily Gayle digs, the deeper the conspiracy runs and the closer she comes to being the killers next victim.

A 2017 Official Selection in mystery by New Apple Awards. This cozy mystery, Cherry Cake and a Cadaver, from Susan Boles is a new addition to the great, southern cozy mystery tradition of Tonya Kappes, Miranda James, and Larissa Reinhart.

Hard to listen to

If it hadn’t been so short I would have never made it through. The story was fine but the narrator’s voice was horrible. Not sure if she was trying to do a southern accent or if that was her normal voice. But I can tell you THAT was not a southern accent...so obviously fake.

Cherry Cake and a Cadaver by Susan Boles 2nd book

Cherry Cake and a Cadaver by Susan Boles
2nd book in the Lily Gayle cozy mystery series. Can be read as a stand-alone but refers to the first story and characters.
A cozy mystery with phrases, characteristics, accents and food all infused with southern charm.
I’m not sure what chocolate gravy is but it sounded yummy served over biscuits.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Lili Dubuque. A southern accent is not a favorite of mine. I pushed the speed up from my usual 1.2 to 1.5 to get rid of the drawl.

Cute if unlikely sleuthing. Small town ambiance. Preconceived ideas a bit off putting.
