Publisher's summary

When paramedics find a malnourished six-year-old boy near a burning car that holds a dead woman, they wonder who he is - and why he won't speak. From the New York Times best-selling author of The Mountain Between Us comes a story of self-discovery, healing, and hope.

On a stifling summer day, an old Chevy Impala ignored the warning signals and was annihilated by the oncoming train. What no one realized until much later was that the driver had paused just before entering the tracks and kicked a small boy out of the car. A small boy with broken glasses who is clutching a notebook with all his might...but who never speaks.

Chase Walker was one of the lucky ones. He was in foster care as a child, but he finally ended up with a family who loved him and cared for him. Now, as a journalist for the local paper, he’s moved on and put the past behind him. But when he’s assigned the story of this young boy, painful, haunting questions about his own childhood begin to rise to the surface.

And as Chase Walker discovers, learning the truth about who you are can be as elusive - and as magical - as chasing fireflies on a summer night.

Praise for Chasing Fireflies:

“Colorful, memorable characters; Southern regional flavor that’s drop-dead accurate; and lyrical, intelligent writing make Chasing Fireflies an exceptionally good read.” (Aspiring Retail)

“Martin understands the power of story and he uses it to alter the souls and lives of both his characters and his readers.” (Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times best-selling author)

Heart warming

Poetically written making reader fell like they are in the scene. Wonderful story that does a beautiful job reinforcing the importance of dads. Made me laugh and cry a little.

a feel good story with a twist

I felt like I was along side of the narrator the entire time. I wanted at least two maybe three more chapters

Unfortunate Mismatch

The book: Great as is to be expected from Charles Martin.

The narrator ruins it. He is great for kids books and maybe humor, but is utterly unsuited for the depth of this work.

Narrator

I liked the voice for Chase but thought narration of Unk was too slow & depressing like Eyore. I couldn’t differentiate the women’s voices, too manly. I did like the storyline & couldn’t put it down.

Plot Twists even in the Afterword.

I had listened to another book by Martin reas by the same guy. It made it a little hard to distinguish characters at first, but this is my favorite reader of Martin books.
Interesting twist in the afterword! I'm not typically a fiction reader, but I'm So glad we found this author. looking forward to my next Martin book. Although his characters seem to find something between justice and redemption, it's never an easy journey...always relatable

Fireflies lit up my road trip

The author is very descriptive and has a good story with picking your interest. It was very entertaining and I felt myself getting lost in the descriptive nature of the book. It was one of the best audiobook listens I have done.

Fantastic storytelling

This author was new to me, and what an amazing gift he has to tell a story. You feel you’ve been there with the characters. I rated the performance as a four only because it seemed to be spoken a little too quickly, especially with the southern drawl. Nevertheless, the reader was very good.
