Written by a practicing emergency physician, The White Coat Investor is a high-yield manual that specifically deals with the financial issues facing medical students, residents, physicians, dentists, and similar high-income professionals. Doctors are highly-educated and extensively trained at making difficult diagnoses and performing life-saving procedures. However, they receive little to no training in business, personal finance, investing, insurance, taxes, estate planning, and asset protection.
This book fills in the gaps and will teach you to use your high income to escape from your student loans, provide for your family, build wealth, and stop getting ripped off by unscrupulous financial professionals. Straight talk and clear explanations allow the book to be easily digested by a novice to the subject matter yet the book also contains advanced concepts specific to physicians you won't find in other financial books.
This book will teach you how to:

May be a five-star book, but not necessarily the kind of book to listen to in Audible as you miss the graphs and may get lost in the numbers.
Please remove the dictated websites and sources at the end of each chapter. Maybe place all in a single website organized by chapter so audible readers can access at a later time. Listening to long web addresses can be frustrating.
That said the content is extremely helpful. Definitely worth the read.
A must read for anyone in the health profession. It saved me over $2000 dollars on my taxes alone this year from just the tax section alone.
Most physicians can relate to the rare and treasured experience, when that Expert Attending shares their "clinical pearls" -- beautifully value-dense collections of years of knowledge across several disciplines by an astute mind. It is always time well spent, an epiphany to residents, yet also a great value even to the experienced.
Jim Dahle shares real Financial Pearls here. No wasteland of mostly irrelevant information to sift through, incomplete explanations, or verbose ramblings with hidden secondary motives. Just solid financial wisdom, distilled.
Read it, and then thank him.
Thank you Jim!
I've read numerous financial books & this one is excellent. It's accessible to a novice investor while also giving a more experienced investor ideas and suggestions for improvement.
This book provides Evidence Based Investing ... just like every physician should practice Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), every investor should practice Evidence Based Investing.
I'm a physician with a degree in finance & this book taught me things, ex. I will take James' suggestion & I will be doing my own taxes this year & having a tax accountant review them with me.
The White Coat Investor is a great blog & if you are 'on the fence' about reading this book I suggest you read some of his free blog posts & I think you'll realize what great advice & knowledge James can provide.
This book would make a great graduation present!
There may be no better first book to read for a physician wanting to take control of their future. Maybe just as valuable as the information within, Dahle motivates you to want to learn more and take an active role in your own future. He cuts to the heart of our problems with wealth management as physicians and gives rock-solid advice.
I have already made few poor financial decisions in my life. This book is the best eye opener I've ever had!
I'm glad I have many years ahead to correct my financial mistakes and live a prosperous life!
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom!
