Publisher's summary

We live in digital time. Our pace is rushed, rapid-fire, and relentless. Facing crushing workloads, we try to cram as much as possible into every day. We're wired up, but we're melting down. Time management is no longer a viable solution. Managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness, and life balance.

The number of hours in a day is fixed, but the quantity and quality of energy available to us is not. This fundamental insight has the power to revolutionize the way you live your life. The Power of Full Engagement is a highly practical, scientifically based approach to managing your energy more skillfully both on and off the job.

At the heart of the program is the Corporate Athlete training system. During the past decade, dozens of Fortune 500 companies have paid thousands of dollars to learn the Corporate Athlete training system. So have FBI swat teams, critical care physicians and nurses, salesmen, and stay-at-home moms. The Power of Full Engagement lays out the key training principles and provides a powerful, step-by-step program that will help you to:

  • Mobilize four key sources of energy
  • Balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal
  • Expand capacity in the same systematic way that elite athletes do
  • Create highly specific, positive energy management rituals

The Power of Full Engagement provides a life-changing roadmap to becoming more fully engaged on and off the job.

Very important topic, but they missed some aspects

The managing of energy is very powerful topic and its not picked by most of the "Gurus" of self help and by anybody in general (at a deeper level). Jim and Tony touched some important points, but I think they also missed some important points too, like:
    - sexual life (specially its toll on men's energy), in this over sexualized society?
    - inspirational materials like movies, books, music that uplifts your energy and inspires, or otherwise frightens you?
    - how energy changes throughout the different phases of life (child, young adult, older adult, people in age and so on)
    - Energy as Creator's currency to punish or remunerate you for your intentions and deeds, that also takes a toll or grows with interest in both ways (negative and positive - karma)
    - what about people with depressions?

I think there is still a lot missed here, but the topic is very important and not touched by many people in western society.

Great paradigm shift of energy for time!

The author explains very well how energy rather than time allows one to achieve goals from desire passions/ mission. But after a chapter or so, the book reviews principles found in most leadership books. Hence, this approach is excellent but the finer details are repetitive for those experienced in time management.
I recommend the 1st chapter as an excellent paradigm shift for the well read.

    Powerful

This book really helped me break down some of my anxiety of how to incorporate new habits and change into smaller bite size pieces. I'm looking forward to start doing new rituals as well as to listening to this book again.

Great information - would have liked more tactical tips

Lacked a bit of the step by step instruction that it promised. I need an explicit “start here” type thing. That said, the concepts feel right on to me. Make small moves to increase physical, emotional and cognitive energy and allow that to fuel more changes.

    Profound ideas

Manage your energy, not time. Based on this idea, full of examples how small changes can lead to big improvements, this audiobook gives plenty of clues how each one of us can make our lives better and more satisfying.
My only complaint is the lack of unabridged audiobook version.

    Excellent!

Don't hesitate. Very good information to up your game and make you the best you possible. The authors substitute the word "rituals" for "Habits". Good healthful habits save energy or increase your energy.
