Publisher's summary

In the more than 15 years since its publication, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has become an international phenomenon. Tens of millions of people in business, government, schools, and families have dramatically improved their lives and organizations by applying the principles of Stephen R. Covey's classic book.

The world, though, is a vastly changed place. The challenges we all face in our relationships, families, professional lives, and communities are of an entirely new order of magnitude.

Being effective as individuals and organizations is no longer merely an option. But in order to thrive, innovate, excel, and lead in what Covey calls the new Knowledge Worker Age, we must build on and move beyond effectiveness. The call of this new era in human history is for greatness; it's for fulfillment, passionate execution, and significant contribution.

Accessing the higher levels of human genius and motivation in today's new reality requires a sea change in thinking. The crucial challenge of our world today is this: to find our voice and inspire others to find theirs. It is what Covey calls the 8th Habit.

So many people feel frustrated, discouraged, unappreciated, and undervalued, with little or no sense of voice of unique contribution. The 8th Habit is the answer to the soul's yearning for greatness, the organization's imperative for significance and superior results, and humanity's search for its "voice". This groundbreaking audiobook of next level thinking gives a clear way to finally tap the limitless value-creation promise of the Knowledge Worker Age.

Covey's new audiobook will transform the way we think about ourselves and our purpose in life, about our organizations, and about humankind. Just as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People helped us focus on effectiveness, The 8th Habit shows us the way to greatness.

NOTE: On the cover and in the introduction, the audio mentions that a free bonus DVD is included. It is NOT included with this audio; however, you're able to stream the content for free after signing up at the following FranklinCovey website: www.StephenCovey.com.

A good read...

It was a good read... Especially through audible..i could now burn a CD and then do a 'CD read' instead of flipping through the pages..

though I'd not compare the effect the ' Seven Habits...' had on me as a late teen...or a young guy..as to this one...where I am rightnow 34..

I think reading a book and capturing from it (and getting inspired) has a lot to do with your age and your mental status... i was one of the lucky youngsters to have read ' Seven Habits...' at that young age..and it shaped me very well..helped me correct myself..today i'm doing much happier ..with myself... and 8th habit just confirms the importance of 'principle b ased leadership', integrity, and being useful to others...which I have learnt by now!

Great book!

Very inspirational book, do recommend to read the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People first. These books are timeless.
Would appreciate if Audible would provide links to the videos referred in the book which are part of the entire experience.

More theory than the 7 Habits

I'm going to be reading this a second time, as I did with 7 Habits. I'm looking forward to better comprehension the second time around. it's a bit more theoretical than the practical 7 Habits. Good theory and good book.

Needs the video attachment

This book has a DVD attachment in the hard copy and constantly refers to it. The book seems to be missing something because your not getting that extra content so you get lost as he discusses it.

This is a great guide for success

If you could sum up The 8th Habit in three words, what would they be?

This is great timeless advice. I will be listening to this again and again.

Great Content! A Leadership Must!

What did you love best about The 8th Habit?

The book is similar to the format of the 7 habits, but with a focus on a person's leadership ability and helping others find their voice. The concept is aligned with servant leadership by Robert Greenleaf. The two negatives were that Dr. Covey read it as a slow pace (I listened to it at 1.5x) and that the accompanying DVD is mentioned in every chapter and this was not provided with the download. go to the Stephen Covey Community website, register, and you can get access to the videos for free.

What three words best describe Stephen R. Covey’s performance?

Thoughtful, Genuine, Humble

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was very slow paced. In addition, the concepts in each chapter, I felt, should be contemplated and dwelled upon. If one were to blast through it, many of the enduring truths mentioned in the book would be overlooked.

Any additional comments?

Still a must read in my leadership collection, just listen to at a faster pace and find the accompanying DVD's!

Get this before you get the 7 Habits

If you like Covey, you will enjoy this book. Having read a number of his books, I recommend this one before the 7 Habits. The 7 Habits are one part of the 8th Habit in my opinion.

This book is more about finding balance in your life.

Helps develope the courage needed for success

The unabridged version of the book is long, but it has to be taken chapter by chapter - which is manageable. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to analyse his/her own position in life and try and balance different goals. The practical steps outlined in this book makes it possible to do so. Good luck to anyone to steps out on this wonderful journey!
