Publisher's summary

Tim Ferriss is an extraordinary young man on a mission. The 28-year-old serial vagabond and successful entrepreneur has been teaching a wildly popular course at Princeton University for the past four years: a how-to and why-to guide to throwing out the old methods for success (balancing life and work, retiring well, having a great nest egg) and replacing them with an entirely new way of living.

The 4 Hour Work Week explains what a lifestyle entrepreneur is and why you should want to become one. It teaches you how to "kill" your job and design a life, the 80/20 rule and how it increases productivity, how to replace your dreams with goals, and more. Listeners can lead a rich life by working only four hours a week, freeing up the rest of their time to spend it living the lives they want.

Critic reviews

"It's about time this book was written. It is a long-overdue manifesto for the mobile lifestyle, and Tim Ferriss is the ideal ambassador." (Jack Canfield)
"Thanks to Tim Ferriss, I have more time in my life to travel, spend time with family, and write book blurbs. This is a dazzling and highly useful work." (A.J. Jacobs, Editor-at-Large, Esquire)

Great advice for those that can handle uncertainty

Those that don't like this book are those that need the safety and false security of every day being the same tedium.
Most people need others to create the environment that makes them feel safe and secure. The reality is that there is no such thing as security nor certainty. Life is to be lived.

Earthshattering

I have read this book twice, and reccommended it to several friends. If you want to break out of the rat race and live a little buy it. At the very least it will give you some ideas on bringing in additional income.

Great information, even beyond advice for making more while doing less.

To be honest, I have not tried any of the techniques recommended to make more money in less time and work--though I intend to over the next few weeks. Monetary tips withstanding, I still enjoyed this book. Tim Ferriss's stories and metaphysical experiences provide a simple guideline on finding meaning to YOUR life. Full of wonderful quotes and anecdotes, I recommend this to anyone who is looking for help getting out of the ruts that life has thrown their way.

Get the Kindle or physical book

By far the best 'self-help'/business book I've ever read just because it's not fluffy philosophies, but specific directions. That's why I suggest getting in print because he gives you a bunch of websites and other resources. Works with whispersync if you want both.

So many URLs

The biggest drawback of opting for the audio version is Ferriss' extensive listing of websites as resources for the reader - best to skip ahead and opt to pickup a hard copy or follow his blog for future reference.

Overall - while some of the methods Ferriss puts forward our thought provoking - the tone of the book can come across as superficial or narcissistic at times rather than the how-to guide it is proclaimed to be. That said I enjoy interviews and Ferris' more recent online content - and am curious about his most current release, Tools of Titans. Worth a speed read - skip the audio version.

I'm Impressed

Tim Ferriss has managed to put together a primer for all of those who see the potential of high tech business models, but weren't sure how to put it all together. This book is fantastic! I enjoyed not only the content, but his straight foward writing style. A must read for any serious entrepreneur.

Not sure if it will help some.

The book is chock full of good ideas. It’s kind of a slow burn, and has a bit too much lifestyle posturing. It definitely wasn’t what I expected, but I also don’t work a traditional 9-5 job. A lot of the stuff in the book won’t be of immediate use in my situation. Still a fantastic listen, and I can totally see where many folks have been helped by Tim. Get it. If nothing else it will give you some good things to mentally chew on.
