quick and dirty advice for retirement at best.

change the name of this book to the only safe retirement book you'll ever need. the advice for retirement is solid, but there are significant sections he glosses over. the author is old, so his advice comes from his experience, while telling you common advice like the way the market has behaved is not necessarily the way it will behave. so through that contradiction he also gives poor advice on crypto and "meme" stocks, excluding "never short a meme stock." that is solid. also he calls pfof the spread, as if it's normal to be cheated out of your money.

recommended if looking for a book on how to safely retire.

Clarity and humor

**Book Review: "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need"**

Andrew Tobias' "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" is wonderfully full of wit, wisdom, and practicality. First published in the 1970s and meticulously updated to reflect the changing tides of the economic landscape, this book remains a staple for both seasoned investors and financial novices. What sets it apart is not just the depth of its insight but the humor and relatability with which Tobias imparts his wisdom.

Tobias, with the finesse of a seasoned storyteller, manages to easily explain the often intimidating world of investments. He does so not through jargon and complexity but through a conversational tone that feels like a chat over coffee with a financially savvy friend. His humor is a key ingredient, transforming what could have been a dry subject into an engaging and enjoyable read. It's this unique blend of levity and clarity that stands out.

One of the most commendable aspects of "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" is its thorough referencing of mini investment opportunities. Tobias doesn't just linger on the broad strokes of stocks and bonds; he delves into the nooks and crannies of the financial world, uncovering gems that might otherwise be overlooked. From the intricacies of money market funds to the potential of real estate investment trusts, no stone is left unturned. This comprehensive exploration ensures that readers walk away with a nuanced understanding of their investment options.

The book also excels in its use of references and resources. Tobias doesn't just tell you what to do; he shows you where to look, further empowering his readers to make informed decisions. This thorough referencing is invaluable in an era where the sheer volume of financial advice can be overwhelming.

In conclusion, "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" by Andrew Tobias stands out not just for its comprehensive coverage of investment opportunities but for the humor and humanity with which it's delivered. It's a testament to Tobias' skill as an author that he can take a subject as dense as investment and turn it into a page-turner. Whether you're a beginner looking to make your first investment or a seasoned player seeking to diversify your portfolio, this book offers a wealth of knowledge, delivered in a way that's both informative and delightfully digestible. It's a rare find in the world of personal finance literature—a book that educates, entertains, and inspires.

comprehensive and a bit of a surprise

I now want a hard copy where I can flag a few pages, and plan to gift copies to my children. This is a very thorough book. That said, I would not have picked up a paper copy had I not listened to it first, as it covers some unexpected topics and is very entertaining as presented. Highly recommend.

An epitome of financial advice

Grab your notebook and take notes of the amazing advice this author gives. Listen thoroughly and carefully and then... listen again and write some more. THAT'S how great this book is to me. Definitely, I will listen time and time again... and probably get the revisions as they come. 😃 Thank you for the enlightenment and the plethora of information. It would be a awesome gift for anyone SPECIALLY young people.

very little about investments, more about spending

For me, this book was not what the title promises. The majority of the book was about wise spending decisions and I guess considers this as 'investment' advice. It then goes through a light weight but lengthy description of how much 'return' you get on purchasing that year supply case of wine at the volume discount rather than a bottle at a time. This is not what I was looking for, and it was the bulk of the book. The very last part of the book started talking about financial market investments (finally), where the bottom line is the well known (though apparently not well practiced) advice that you can't pick stocks or funds that consistently beat the market. The best strategy for long term investment is low cost index funds. If you want actual financial investment advice, read John Bogle's 'The Little Book of Common Sense Investing'.
