Publisher's summary

The government has been seized by a ne'er-do-well rich boy and his elderly henchmen...Our great economic expansion is unraveling faster than a set of Firestones...Our water is poisoned, the ozone's in shreds, and the SUVs are advancing like a plague of locusts...

Remember when everything was looking up? When the government was running at a surplus, pollution was disappearing, peace was breaking out in the Middle East and Northern Ireland, and the Bridge to the Twenty-First Century was strung with high-speed Internet cable and paved with 401K gold?

Well, so much for the future. Michael Moore, the award-winning provocateur behind Roger & Me and the best seller Downsize This!, now returns to size up the new century - and that big, ugly special-interest group that's laying waste to the world as we know it: stupid white men.

Whether he's calling for United Nations action to overthrow the Bush Family Junta, begging African-Americans to place "whites only" signs over the entrances of unfriendly businesses, or praying that Jesse Helms will get kissed by a man, Stupid White Men is Mike's Manifesto on Malfeasance and Mediocrity. Among his targets:

  • George W.: "'President' of the United States. The Thief-in-Chief. A trespasser on federal land, a squatter in the Oval Office."
  • Bill Clinton: "One of the best Republican presidents we've ever had."
  • The former Yugoslavia: "Bring back Marshall Tito! Nobody in America liked him much when he was alive, but now he looks like Lady Bird Johnson."
  • The idiot nation: "A friggin' stain on a blue dress. That's what captured our attention in the '90s - along with slow-moving Broncos, six-year-old strangled beauty queens, and Hugh Grant's dating habits."
  • Corporate America: "There is no recession, my friends: no downturn, no hard times. The rich are wallowing in loot - and now they want to make sure you don't come a-lookin' for your piece of the pie."

Critic reviews

"The latest appraisal of contemporary American society by a popular and iconoclastic commentator." (Booklist)
"As fulminating and crammed with infuriating facts as any right-wing best seller, as irreverent as The Onion, and as noisily entertaining as a wrestling smackdown." (Amazon.com)

Stupid White Man

I hardly think we can call Michael Moore brave for standing up to the Bush Administration, considering the large amount of liberal publications recently released on the same topic. If anything, Moore is just following the liberal crowd, only with boneheaded arguments that show a very limited mental capacity. Moore is still riding the fumes from the successful (and very funny) "Canadian Bacon". He hasn't learned that the reason that was his most successful work is because it is not a straight-out political commentary, but one hidden in a humorous tale that is similar, albeit told in a completely different fashion, in the South Park movie. My message for Michael Moore: Subtlety is funny. Of course, I can only hope that the content of this book was intended as a joke. If you want some better-written conservative-bashing, I reccommend Al Franken's book.

Horrible

Nothing but a lot of liberal hot air. Just repeats all those ideas that have been disproven since the 80's. Move on Moore. Most of the rest of us have.

Rant

Nothing more than a rant. If you agree with him before, you will after. If you don't agree with him, he certainly won't persuade you. He has obviously written this for his choir.

Stupid Choice For A Narrator !

I have a hard time listening to this book.
I loved Arte Johnson on "Laugh-In".
But Michael Moore wrote this book and can MUCH better deliver with
passion and conviction his own words. He is a terrific public speaker.
I know he was busy and such with his book tour and movie opening, BUT if he couldn't find the time to NARRATE his OWN book, then why do it.
If he were smart he would recall this "bore" , and read it himself.

Tripe...that's all.

This is really bad writing. Micheal has absolutely no idea about what has made this country great. He thinks that all of the hard work of so many people should be transferred to those that HE decides are deserving. He rails on corporations without ever exploring the chance that demands from unions make US workers a terrible value compared to other workers in other countries. This guy is so naive and stupid that I feel dumber for having skimmed this goofy, socialist manifesto.

He's bitter, he's narrow minded, and angry

I purchased this book after reading Slander by Anne Coulter. I was actually looking for a contrasting viewpoint regarding the 2000 election. Both books covered this subject in depth from opposite sides of the spectrum. It is unfortunate that almost all of Moores views expressed in this book are based on his skewed outlook of this country as opposed to a real objective presentation of the facts. This is a guy who does not believe in what this country is all about. At best, unless you agree with Moore's outlook on life, this book will just tick you off.

Complete waste of time and money

Not much to say about this idiot and his ideas. Left wingers need to learn to do for themselves and not be so jealous of those who are successful. This audio book is filled with left wing propaganda, most of which is easily disproved by the facts. Avoid.

Worth every cent!

I'm glad this was a free selection - if I had paid hard earned cash for this book, I would be as upset as Mr. Moore seems to be ;-)
