This is a must read for any musician who wants to make music their career. I've read tons of books and articles and this one really hit home. It gives real, practical advice you can take action on this second. The author and reader understand my struggles as a musician and offer real help without judgment. I truly appreciate this book as a contribution to the music industry and to my personal career in an all girl rock band. This is a game changer!
There are some great ideas in this book for musicians looking at engaging with their fans in the modern music industry. I got a lot out of it.
The music industry has changed from the days of the record labels being in charge of everything. Your success is not dependent on them alone anymore. David does a great job of spelling out the opportunities available to musicians of all stripes and describes the tools and techniques to help you engage with your audience. The audible.com version has a great appendix packed with information and an interview with the author.
That it is not about you, but about making your audience feel good, that is the business we are in. The business is also not only about selling music, it is about engaging with your audience and making them feel good.
Two things: the focus on how to realistically make this happen (there will be work, it's not overnight, but doing x, y & z this is how to realistically make it happen) and the focus on the "inner game." Too often it's our own thinking that stops us. Hooper covers that, too.
Since this is non-fiction and not a story, I'm not sure this question is applicable, but the example of Martha Walsh beating the music industry system was great to hear.
This is the only title I've heard read by him, but I found him to be a quality narrator.
I did laugh. Some of the examples of success were polar opposites of each other (lesbian folk singers as opposed to Christian artists, for example) that they made me laugh, but they made the point that you can find your market, no matter how far outside of "the mainstream."
Great book. Great content. Good narration. Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

Great 1st hand experience from a guy that knows the business from the ground up not the other way around
several aspects of the sales and marketing in this book are useful and most of them are so common sense and practical that you wont have a problem integrating the methods in every day life
