Publisher's summary

The personal finance book of the year - Mad Money and CNBC star Jim Cramer's guide to high-yield/low-risk investing in a recovering economy.

Tired of false promises about getting rich quickly, promises that lead to reckless decisions, the stepping stones to the poorhouse? How about trying something different? How about going for lasting wealth based on thirty-five years' worth of insights from Jim Cramer, a grizzled stock veteran and host of CNBC's Mad Money with Jim Cramer . . . How about getting rich carefully?

Jim Cramer's Get Rich Carefully gives you the plans you need to make big money without taking big risks. Drawing on his unparalleled knowledge of both the stock market and about the mistakes and successes he's made on the way to his own fortune, Cramer explains to you, in plain English, why you can get rich in a prudent, methodical way, as long as you start now. In his own inimitable style, Cramer lays it on the line, no waffling, no on-the-one-hand-or-the-other, just the straight stuff you need to get wealthy - everything from the best long-term investing themes to the discipline you need to exploit them.

Jim Cramer's Get Rich Carefully may be the most invaluable book savers and investors could ever hope for: a tell-all that tells you all you need to know to turn your savings into real, lasting wealth in a practical and, yes, because it's Cramer, readable and entertaining fashion.

Critic reviews

“Careful isn't the word that usually comes to mind when investors think of Jim Cramer...[b]ut Cramer says his show has changed, and his newest book reflects this epiphany. Cramer is now professing a different, more traditional, approach to the stock picking.” (USA Today)

“In highly accessible language, Cramer explains how the stock market is influenced by economic data, Fed policy, world events, the actions of hedge funds, and the trend toward sector funds even when the underlying fundamentals of a stock remain stable. Drawing on his long experience, both mistakes and successes, Cramer demystifies the stock market and offers sound investing advice and an insightful overview of the market for cautious investors.” (Booklist)

“Look to this book for guiding principles rather than specific stock tips.... Forget about getting rich quick: The new investment climate, writes Mad Money host Cramer, is 'treacherous...bizarre stock movements have become the staple, if not the hallmark, of this era'. Cramer, formerly known for his exuberant approach...has since taken a visibly more deliberate approach to the matter. This new book reflects his caution.... Cramer’s long list of dos and don’ts ('Relative valuations don’t justify a purchase'; 'Stop falling in love with your stocks') is worth the price of the book.” (Kirkus)

Get's annoying and not that insightful

I love watching mad money so I wanted to purchase one of Cramers books. I understand how he can say that the concepts of the book are still relevant despite it being written years ago but really he is analyzing stocks in detail that are no longer relevant. Many of the stocks he recommends in this book have actually gone under or went private. This book is much more one that you would need to read within a year of it being written. There isn't much you learn here. I understand that you would find this same challenge with any investment book but if you read Peter Lynch, which is significantly older, his lessons stand the test of time and focus less on actual individual stocks. Cramer really puts too much emphasis on individual stocks as opposed to the concepts that make those stocks or strategies successful. Yes, he mentions some of that information but it is far too much in the context of the individual stocks. I would avoid this book, it is a waste of money. You are much better served reading the books of the people who really defined investing strategies such as Lynch or Graham. Not to mention he is actually wrong almost as much as he is right so it is hard to really take his advice too seriously. This book if anything is a good lesson in caution with listening to anyone who tells you to buy a stock without doing your own research.

Needs to be updated

Several of the ideas are good, but this book does not transcend time. Bottom Line, it needs to be updated.

Discipline trumps Conviction

If you could sum up Jim Cramer's Get Rich Carefully in three words, what would they be?

If you want to be a disciplined investor, take Jim's advice in this book. Not necessarily the actual picks of stock, but the logic behind the madness. Mr. Cramer keeps this topic interesting throughout the book.

Good Investment Advice

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like the show then you will like this book.

What did you like best about this story?

Lots of investment books offer general knowledge, like that Jim Cramer actually gives specific stock picks. Or other tips like how ETFs control the market and how one can benefit.

Any additional comments?

See in the reviews that some people don't like Jim Cramer narrating. I think he does a great job, don't see why this is an issue.

Good Investment Advice, but a bit dated.

I've seen Jim Cramer for years on CNBC and generally thought that he was not a true economist because his television persona was over the top. I realized recently that there is real substance behind his bravado and I have been watching him nearly every day now. I've finally found someone to replace Louis Rukeyser as my financial guru! This book explains many concepts and the narration was not as histrionic as he can be on air. My only criticism is that many of the stories were from a very narrow segment of time so this book is rapidly becoming very dated.
