Getting Past No contains many of the techniques and ideas that are fully developed in the original "Getting to Yes." If you are looking for a quick read, this is good - otherwise, I would go for the "full" version.
I needed a quick 'tutorial' before answering a difficult person that I am currently negotiating with. This was great. In 2 short hours, I had a pocketful of ideas which I used (and they worked!). It was very helpful to me. If the only available versions had been the longer ones (6 hours) , I probably would not have listened to anything, and not gained this valuable information.

The book is Ok for a 2 hours listen, but I have read/listened to much better books. It starts very slow also yet gradually catches up.
This book has excellent information explained simply. It is a must have. The readers take a different approach reading the book. It is frequently interrupted with instrumental rings and chimes to identify points and sections. I found them annoying. They also used other voices for examples and stories which was new to me, but I ended up liking it.
I would compare this to a stripped down version of The Power of a Positive No.
I love the phrase "Don't get mad. Don't get even. Get what you want." Absolutely, hands-down, the most powerful message in this book.
No extreme reaction other than the constant amazement of the epiphanies I encounter through Mr. Ury's stories. True enlightenment.
William Ury is cool, calm and collected. His material, read through his mastery on the subject he's 'lecturing' on, is simply on point. His tone is perfection and his ability to speak with influence is amazing. I'm a big, big fan of this author.
Book has valid information on getting through negotiations. Repeats some of the same techniques from Getting to Yes... but in one third the time.
