Publisher's summary

Recession-Proof Graduate is a wildly popular career guide that's been downloaded over 150,000 times. This audiobook is frequently shared among students, teachers, parents, counselors, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. It's been integrated in the coursework at a number of universities, given away as a graduation gift, and translated to Italian.

I struggled to find meaningful work - or any work - after getting out of school. I graduated in 2008 - during the worst economy in 80 years - and spent my days spamming my resume to hundreds of companies I didn’t want to work for…and never heard back. It was exhausting. When I changed my strategy, I landed a handful of dream gigs, got to work with amazing people like Tim Ferriss and Ramit Sethi, and found myself turning down multiple paid job offers. Best of all, I was getting paid to work on projects that made me come alive. It was a far cry from the days of begging for soul-crushing work. People kept asking how I did it, so I wrote this free guide on how to use free work to land your dream job.

Critic reviews

“What do Seth Godin, Tucker Max, Ramit Sethi and Tim Ferriss have in common? All of them are NY Times Best Selling authors, have ginormous followings, and are media magnets. Most of us already knew this about them. The one thing they have in common that most do not know is at some point in their careers they all had a level of support from Charlie Hoehn.” - Lewis Howes, author of the #1 LinkedIn Book, Founder of Sports Executives Association“Charlie is one of the most talented marketers and entrepreneurs I’ve ever worked with. A true gem. I highly recommend him.” (Ramit Sethi, New York Times best-selling author of I Will Teach You to Be Rich)

Valuable information!

The book was entertaining and provided great information to help students and people in general with concrete steps to land the "dream job". The story was great, as was the reader. Thank you so much for sharing!

Be Wary

I always take these sorts of books with a grain of salt. What works for one person isn't guaranteed to work for another. His process seems a bit too simplified, but if someone is desperate/willing to try anything, I suppose it's decent advice.

Informative

Free work is the key! Things haven't changed from 2008 to 2015. Internet work for free is a great idea.

Innovative and Interesting!

Would you listen to FREE Recession Proof Graduate again? Why?

Absolutely! I have already listened to this book five times. Yes, five. I realized how extremely useful this book was and I wanted to get as much as I could out of it.

Any additional comments?

This book is an absolute must-read for recent graduates or soon to be graduates. This book kept the career goals dream alive for me. I followed the advice of Charlie Hoehn and pursued a job that I actually really wanted (the high bearing fruit) and got the job. The purely progressive approach to getting the job was enough to catch the attention of my now employer and helped get my foot in the door. I cannot thank Charlie Hoehn enough for providing this audiobook on Audible for free or I may not have ever gotten to this point.

Get A Job By Working For Free

What did you like best about FREE Recession Proof Graduate? What did you like least?

I like the unique concept of working for free until you land a good job.

Did FREE Recession Proof Graduate inspire you to do anything?

It inspires me to start finding free work to see if any opportunities do really come of it.

Any additional comments?

Author makes argument that doing free work will land you a job. The first step in this process is sending the company an e-mail. He does research sometimes "for hours" then e-mails the company about his services. How are these e-mails not viewed as spam? I have a feeling 99% of them will be deleted immediately in the real world. I think Hoehn has carved out a niche, but for someone not skilled in communication the road to success with this tactic will prove very difficult.

Interesting Concept

If the traditional process of job hunting is not working, identifying what life style you want and researching the person or company you want to work for and initially working for free for them is a great way to get a reference and showcase your skills. The author explains the working for free concept benefits and drawbacks. He also explains why it is important that you know what lifestyle you want and what industry you want to work in. The insight in this book is good advice for someone who wants to change careers too.
