Russell might have helped introduce hip-hop to the world, but he credits his success to his belief in a strong set of principles, or laws, which he shares for the first time in this audio. In 12 steps, Russell reveals a path towards success that can be followed not only by those looking to duplicate his professional success, but by anyone struggling to realize a dream.
Those looking solely for advice on how to build up a bank account at the expense of personal integrity should probably look elsewhere. That's because these laws stem from the belief that all success, be it professional or personal, comes from a connection with your higher self. Using examples from his own experiences and observations, Russell demonstrates how tapping into that connection will allow you to get your mind right, find the motivation to start instead of stall, surround yourself with the right people, appreciate the power of hard work, and understand the power of karma.
But most importantly, this book will demonstrate how it's impossible to receive any sort of lasting success from the world without giving something of lasting value to the world first. That's a practice that is reflected in Russell's own work as a mentor and philanthropist and one that he promotes as fundamental to empowerment and success on every level.
Blending business insight, universal spiritual truths, and an inspired sense of purpose, Do You! crosses the lines of age, race, and background with wisdom that will lift you up and motivate you to pursue your vision.

"I consider him one of the great entrepreneurs out there today. Russell knows the market and he sees the future, and that's the ultimate businessperson." (Donald Trump)
"Russell Simmons, the original and eternal Hip-Hop Mogul, is one of the most innovative and influential figures in modern American business and culture." (The New York Times)
"Simmons is the Godfather. Def Jam was the model that birthed Bad Boy, No Limit, Roc-A-Fella, and all these other labels. And then later, Phat Farm birthed Sean Jean, Rocawear, MarcJacobs, and all these other clothing companies. Russell is the architect of what we do." (Jay-Z)
Even though some will be put off by the curse words sprinkled more heavily in some places in this book than others, it is a must listen to. The reader is good, even though Russell reading it himself would have been better. The book is hard to categorize and this is one of its strengths. Mr. Simmons manages to include interesting biographical information, write an important, but brief piece of American history, write a spiritual book and write an extremely motivational book all in one, easy flow, word composition. It is really a must-hear for every American. Russell Simmons uses the N-word a couple times. I look forward to the time when he gets to the place in his personal evolution to have no further need to use this word or any other of those violent words. I have full confidence that he will get to that place. His personal meteoric rise thus far has been enough to amaze anyone who is really listening.
As an entrepreneur, I greatly appreciated the realness and candor of what Mr. Simmons was telling me in his book. This book is a refreshing change from many self-help books in which the authors are afraid to be open and honest about their failures and faults.
Dear Russell, few books I read that give the msg so clear, I am brasilian and I understand very well what is to have a dream, I wish I could translate your book and give for free for all those brasilian kids that feel right now lost just like I was im my past. You wrote the #1 book and Hill Harper wrote the #2 but not less important... thank you all. Sorry for my write mistakes, really I think you dont care...
I thought this book was good, but I would probably recommend it more for a younger audience. It's a good way to get success principles early in life. It's refreshing to get such an inspiring message from the Hip Hop culture.
By far this is the greatest book I have ever listened to. Russell's Law's and Black Ice's voice were as good a combination as Kobe and Shaq. The laws in this book should be passed on to every young person in America. These laws are priceless and the delivery is excellent. This book is so necessary for the hip-hop generation. Thank you Russell for this book...It has truly changed my life!!!!
I WANT MORE
GREAT VOICE. EASY TO LISTEN TO. HAS A WAY OF CONNECTING WITH THE AUDIENCE
WOULD HAVE LOVED TO LISTEN TO IT IN ONE SITTING BUT HAD TO SPREAD IT OUT THOUGH THAT WAS BEST BECAUSE I DIDNT WANT IT TO END =)
I am just a Go-getter with passion to succeed in what I do best. I live to acheive the best out of life by reading smart intellectual folks so I can embrace some of their substance that they express with reason to express it.
Russell goes on how to be a representive about what you stand for by selling yourself and your craftmanship talents as a brand and quality that become a perfect and good choice to do business by you.
Whats really holding you back by Valorie Burton she breaks down certain aspect on moving forward
The Origin of Hip-Hop, the pitfalls of business, and the incredible upswing that can happen when you "DO YOU" to overcome obstacles.
The Part Where He Describes his ordeal with "Brian "Baby Williams" of Cash Money, and how he slipped on not signing "OUTKAST"
Not Sure Yet!! Good Question!
Buy The Book, Listen to it often. It's Not A Book About "How To Get Rich Quick", however, it is an actual blue print to long term wealth and riches.
Right towards the top. Black Ice was a solid choice to narrate this. Info is good, and well worth the listen.
Yes, I would try another book by Russell Simmons.
No. I would tell my friends to pick up Super Rich. I listened to Super Rich first so when I started listening to Do You, the information in the book was old. I continued to ask myself,
Black Ice is a great narrator. I enjoyed watching him on Def Poetry, Russell was correct when he stated Black Ice is captivating and easy to listen to.
"Remarkable story and an inspiration for all."
Generic self help and motivational wisdom from one that really has.
This does not feel like a book written by someone generating wealth by repackaging a selling old ideas. A fresh motivating presentation.
Clear and motivating voice. Not at all patronising like some books of this type
