Publisher's summary

One look at the 16-year-old prim-and-proper-town, goody-two-shoes Hennessy Hanes and Tate Casey knows he's in trouble. He knows he should stay away from the preacher's daughter, but there's something about her he's drawn to, and he can't resist the pull. The more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that something isn't right. He may not be able put his finger on what it is, but he's determined to find out what's going on with the girl with the haunted eyes.

Tate didn't anticipate that someone else would be just as determined to keep Hennessy's nightmare a secret, and he never realizes just how far that person is willing go to keep those skeletons in the closet until it's too late. With the very real threat of jail time hanging over his head, Tate leaves without a backwards glance at the town or the girl. The problem is that out-of-sight doesn't necessarily mean out of mind, and it's Tate who's now haunted by his decision and memories of Hennessy.

Hennessy Hanes knows better than anyone not everything is always as it appears to be. After years of being on the receiving end of her squeaky-clean preacher father's abuse, she seizes an opportunity to leave it all behind and runs. Her only regret is that in walking away she loses any chance with the one person who tried to save her.

Fast forward 10 years, and they're both back where they started. Tate was never a good boy, and it turns out that the man he's now grown into isn't all that much better. Anger is a living, breathing part of him, and there's a court order forcing him to seek help from the one person he's never forgotten.

Hennessy never thought she'd see Tate Casey again, and certainly not on her couch. But now it's her turn to save him, and there are rules she must follow as his psychologist, not to mention a court order instructing her to help him manage his anger. If she doesn't follow those rules, he'll end up back in jail.

Tate Casey has never been a man who followed the rules, and Hennessy is no longer the straight-laced, timid preacher's daughter she once was. His hands may be tied, so it looks like for the first time in Hennessy's life, she'll be the one breaking the rules for the chance to finally get what she's always wanted. Him.

Contains mature themes.

Story kind of slow

I like LLV most of the time. But she is a hit or miss author. I’d say 75% is hit, 25% miss. This is a miss. While I like the characters, they are the same as every other character. They all sound the same. Even if they had different narrators, they’d sound the Same.
I have read all of LLV books and have listen to about 90% of all her books. And this is definitely not one of my favorites. I’ve skipped around a lot, I wasn’t paying attention to some of it, and I would think I was listening to a different book because they all sound the same after a while. I get excited when I see a new book from her, but after listening to so many they all start sounding the same. I’ll probably keep reading and listening to her books because when she has a great one, it is really great.

That connection lasts for years

I did think it was interesting that the female characters name was Hennessy and she is the good girl that does not swear or use foul language. She is surrounded by all these people who use cursing and what some would consider vulgar words in most of their conversations. Though neither of these characters are Hail’s they are such a big part of the family. The Hail’s have their backs and both Tate and Hennessy are family by choice not blood. The writing style is good and narrators are great.

Tate & Hennessy

The town bad boy and the preachers daughter, loaded with hidden truths, suspense, misunderstandings, humor and a very undeniable love between two people who have been through a lot. Tate and Hennessy have a beautiful connection, amazing chemistry and a wonderful friendship. They bring out the best in each other. I enjoyed every single moment. Narration was FANTASTIC!

Tate Casey

Alpha male with a sweet, but very protective side. Hennessy is the preachers daughter that is hiding a secret.

Enjoyable

Characters were good, some drama, and a few twists to their story. No cheating. Each book is different I just would like the FMC’s to have more backbone. Narrators did a good job.

Twist

Lani Lynn Vale just keeps the most enjoyable books coming! I'm 69 years old and wish I could be her when I grow up.
This book, just like all her prior ones, makes me laugh so hard that I have to share her words.
The prejudice Tate has to endure from the townfolk and the conflicts he has to overcome to be near Hennessey were not easy ones.
But Ms Vale weaves the story in such a way that you can't stop listening.
A big shout out to Kendall Taylor and Mason Lloyd. Both of them are great narrators! They made it seem like I was watching a movie, I could literally see the people and places and watch the events unfold before the backs of my eyes.
