Publisher's summary

A college student’s murder shines light on community secrets left in the dark in the seventh Widow’s Island novella by #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.

All communities have their secrets...but on Widow’s Island, there’s a skeleton in every closet, as Deputy Tessa Black knows all too well. When Tessa stumbles upon a half-buried body in the woods, a peaceful morning hike suddenly turns into a race to catch a killer.

Tessa identifies the skeletal corpse as Aurora Franklin, a young college student and aspiring actor. She’d come to Widow’s Island for a summer job, only to be strangled and discarded. Aurora has been dead for over a month - and not a single islander has reported her missing.

The investigation reveals a dangerous predator hiding in the Widow’s Island community. With her fiancé, park ranger Logan Wilde, by her side, Tessa must find Aurora’s murderer before they strike again.

Good

I love checking in on beloved characters. I always thought and they lived happily ever after was bullshit. Even though th we death rate in these small towns are incredibly high, the real life situations faced in Ms. Leigh's books gives an authentic view of life, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Very addictive series!

The narrator is wonderful. She does a marvelous job of character voices. She easily switches from male and female. She will help you definitely connect, and care for the characters. This book was wonderful and delightful! The entire series is excellent! You will get a little love, danger, and a lot of suspense! Widows island might be small, and quaint, but it definitely provides its own share of mystery and suspense! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Grim Discovery While Walking

Deputy Sheriff Tessa Black and her sister, Patience are out for an early morning walk when they smell decomposing flesh. Thinking it was probably a deer or other dead animal, Tessa walks into the woods to check when she stumbles over a human arm. Wanting to protect her younger sister, she asks her to stay back. They mark the area with a red t-shirt and walk to where they have a cell phone signal to call Logan, Tessa's fiancé and the park ranger. After the coroner identifies the body as twenty-year-old, Aurora Franklin, a young college student and summer hire at a whale watching company on the island, Tessa and Logan go about notifying next of kin. This is a good addition to the series, sad in many ways, but the changes in Tessa and Logan's lives as they prepare for their wedding are the best parts. The killer is identified fairly early on and there isn't the usual mystery surrounding who it may be, although capturing and containing him is hair raising. I look forward to the next in the series.

Great Quickie

Solid writing and excellent narration combine in this short novella, part of the longer Widow's Island series. If you're the type of listener that has a hard time committing to longer books, this series is a great way to go.

Personally, I rarely like novellas because the character development usually suffers. But that's not the case with this series, as the author is excellent at building these personalities that reappear in each episode. I've enjoyed every story in this series and love the fact that they are easy listens and still great stories.

short story

A short story in the series that has a murder mystery and an update on Logan and Tessa and how their life is going. Wish it had been just a bit longer but good overall.

Excellence continues

As always this book was written very well. The narration was excellent. My only critique of this is that I wish all of these novella’s were put into one book. But because the story was so good I didn’t even ding a star.

Another engaging story on Widow’s Island

On the idyllic island of Widow’s Island, just off the Washington coast, a gruesome discovery is made. Bones of a college student are unearthed…a student who was supposed to be working on WI for the summer. Deputy Sheriff Tessa Black and fiancé Park Ranger Logan Wilde are on the case to find a killer….while planning a wedding and dealing with Tessa’s mother’s dementia! A fiendish hen adds some humor to this fast paced whodunnit. Looking forward to the next book.

Too short!

It feels like the story ended halfway through the book. Too much left unknown.
