Publisher's summary

Life can be sweet. Our relationships with friends, spouses, colleagues, and family members can be wonderfully rewarding. They can also bring heartache, frustration, anxiety, and anger. We all know the difference between times when we feel open, generous, and at ease with people versus times when we are guarded, defensive, and on edge. Why do we get trapped in negative emotions when it's clear that life is so much fuller and richer when we are free of them?

Bonds That Make Us Free is a groundbreaking book that suggests the remedy for our troubling emotions by addressing their root causes. You'll learn how, in ways we scarcely suspect, we are responsible for feelings like anger, envy, and insecurity that we have blamed on others. (How many times have you said, "You're making me mad!")

Even though we fear to admit this, it is good news. If we produce these emotions, it falls within our power to stop them. But we have to understand our part in them far better than we do, and that is what this remarkable book teaches. Because the key is seeing truthfully, the book itself is therapeutic. As you listen and identify with the many true stories of people who have seen a transformation in their lives, you will find yourself reflecting with fresh honesty upon your relationships. This will bond you to others in love and respect and lift you out of the negative thoughts and feelings that have held you captive. You will feel your heart changing even as you listen.

"It would not be accurate to describe this book as supplying the truths upon which we must build our lives," writes author C. Terry Warner. "Instead it shows how we can put ourselves in that receptive, honest, and discerning condition that will enable us, any of us, to find these truths on our own."

Finding these truths is the key to healing our relationships and coming to ourselves, and Bonds That Make Us Free starts us on that great journey.

Personal Change

This audio book inspired and informed me of the kind of change I want. Not of my situation, family, friends, or my past. A change of heart. It beautifully illustrates the value and difference a change in heart can make through true story’s and examples in other peoples lives. I am so glad my boss not only encourages us as a team to read these Abridger books but she also exemplifies their teachings. The two great commandments in the bible and Book of Mormon never made more sense then after listening to this book. I am seeing in my own life that loving God and loving others is more dependent on my heart then on my head. It’s really difficult to keep a soft heart when my first reaction to most life experiences which can be uncomfortable and painful is to harden it. There is a principle in Buddhism that teaches that there are different kinds of suffering, but the worst kind is self inflicted. It’s not talking about our mistakes that hurt us but our narrative of our lives and our perception of the people around us is what causes the deepest suffering. In corrie ten booms book “the hiding place” she describes stories from helping the Jews escape to being put in a concentration camp with her family after being caught. Her angel sister died while remaining calm and gentle. She saw terrible things sad ways people treated people but learned how to have happiness despite her hardships and learn life changing lessons in love and forgiveness. There are so many stories in scripture and history were people in physical bondage found truth that set them free from and internal bondage that grips us all. Truth and kindness set our hearts free and faith puts our mind at ease. I am so great full for all the time and thought put into this audiobook, it is truly freeing and I hope to seek that change of heart that makes all the difference in loving honestly. If your seeking for more truth and light here you will find it:) worth it 💯

Finished... and listening again...

FANTASTIC... uniquely insightful into human nature while showing we are capable of much more than most of our society believes. These concepts need to be understood, applied, and shared... by *everyone*. I plan to continue to study and apply within my own sphere of influence.

Inspiring!

This book is unlike any I have ever read (or heard) in that the examples really hit home and make you think of how you handle situations and then how you can handle them better. I loved the analogy of the weed only being killed by getting to it's deep recesses. Just pulling up what we see is not effective. It's time to get to the very root causes of my self-deception and grow into the man I'm meant to become.

Skeptical

I was skeptical going into this but at the end I felt I was a changed person. The information within can help you to realize that you CAN change and gives you practical tools and means to conduct and maintain that change.

One of the few Audiobooks that I have bought and kept and will listen to again and again

Helped save our marriage.

Our marriage of 10 years was strained due to a number of circumstances. My wife read this book at a friend's recommendation. Without doing any thing special we regained harmony. 2 years later, and I finally listened to it. I'll be honest, it took some effort to get through the first few chapters, but I'm so glad I did. It's not so much learning new ideas to implement as it was finally seeing myself clearly.

The most powerful and influential book...

I have ever read, short of scriptures. The principles shared by Terry Warner in this book can truly free anyone who strives to apply them in their lives from emotional bondage.

What harm is there in feelings like jealousy, anger, revenge, insecurity and many others? They result in us giving others control over our own happiness. This book helps the reader understand this and other important principles and shows the reader a way out of the bondage caused by these and other negative actions and emotions. It has changed my life and am confident it can do the same for others.
